THIRD EAR BAND, ‘ALCHEMY’, A 1969 UK EMI/HARVEST RECORD LABEL LP –SHVL 756.
Third Ear Band were a British psychedelic folk band that evolved within the London alternative and free-music scene of the mid-1960s. Members came from The Giant Sun Trolley and The People Band to create an improvised music drawing on Eastern raga forms, European folk, experimental and medieval influences. They recorded their first session in 1968 for Ron Geesin which was released under the pseudonym of The National-Balkan Ensemble on one side of a Standard Music Library disc. Their first actual album, Alchemy, was released on the EMI Harvest label in 1969, (featuring John Peel playing jaw harp on one track), followed by Air, Earth, Fire, Water (aka Elements) in 1970. They recorded two soundtracks, the first in 1970 for an animated film by Herbert Fuchs of Abelard and Heloise (which first saw release as part of Luca Ferrari's Necromancers of the Drifting West Sonic Book in 1997) and then in 1971 for Roman Polanski's film of Macbeth. After various later incarnations and albums they finally disbanded in 1993 owing to leader and percussionist Glen Sweeney's ongoing health problems.
This album is a later 1969 issue on the Green & Yellow Harvest Record Labels, with circled P date 1969, with the Gramophone Co Ltd Label Rim, and without the Sold In UK label text.
Both record labels are in Mint Minus condition, super clean record labels with signs of just a couple of plays on each label.
The album plays without faults through all the Tracks.
The matrixes, side1, SHVL 756 A-1, side2, SHVL 756 B-1.
Both sides of the LP are in superb Excellent Plus condition, super clean glossy well cared for vinyl surfaces with just light surface hairlines, and a light visible surface mark on track 2, side 2 which does not sound when played.
And is housed in it’s original glossy laminated gate-fold picture sleeve, the sleeve is in immaculate and superb Near Mint condition, this sleeve is undamaged showing only mild signs of record storage and a couple of corner bumps.
A superb example of this rare and obscure album release.
