Description
TOMMY DORSEY, FRANK SINATRA & BUNNY BERIGAN. 12" RCA home-recorded radio lacquer from August 10, 1940. Frank and the Pied Pipers sing "Whispering" with a muted Bunny Berigan trumpet solo. Bunny left the band less than a week later. Then Tommy and the announcer talk up Sy Oliver's new arrangement of "Without a Song," which is then premiered. The first chorus leads into a disc turnover, which comes before Sinatra's vocal begins. After the vocal, there is a lengthy hot tenor solo by Don Lodice, which is not on the recorded version. The record ended after Frank's vocal. Even with some music lost when the disc needs to be flipped, the performance runs over six minutes! Then guest Joe Venuti is introduced and interviewed by Tommy. The disc runs out before the interview ends. V+ condition, some wear and minor scratch, plays extremely well.
