MAN FROM INTERPOL

AR-TV series directed by GODFREY GRAYSON & ROBERT LYNN,  England 1960

Run by British-based American brothers Eddie and Harry Lee Danziger, production company Danziger Productions Ltd churned out over 80 TV series and films between 1950 and 1962. Initially producing for cinema and US TV, by 1959 their Elstree-based studios were creating series for Britain’s ITV companies. Requiring music for these productions, the Danziger brothers partnered with Jeffrey Kruger. Music publisher, record producer and owner of the Flamingo Club in London, Kruger had an established managerial relationship with jazz (and occasionally rock ’n’ roll) drummer Tony Crombie, to whom he turned now for music to the series Man From Interpol. Starring Richard Wyler as Interpol agent Anthony Smith, Man From Interpol ran for 39 episodes (including several written by then-Danziger staff writer Brian Clemens), broadcast by Associated-Rediffusion from 1959, and by NBC in the States from January 1960. A single and album were released on Top Rank in 1959. The title theme was coupled with Interpol Cha Cha Cha and Interpol Chase (JAR 182), while the album (35/043) also secured US release, albeit with a reduced track listing and different artwork (RM 327 mono, RS 627 stereo). The album was credited to Tony Crombie arranging and conducting the Studio Orchestra.

In July 1960, Kruger’s new label Ember released its own Man From Interpol album (EMB 3300). The album featured 17 tracks but the label copy and artwork only listed 16, conflating the penultimate two tracks, Beguine Portent and Bolero Reverie as Beguine Reverie. Crombie is credited as composer and arranger, and the artists as Parliament Brass And Orchestra directed by Buddy Kaye, an American better known as a songwriter. The Ember album shares some titles with the Top Rank release, but the title theme for one is a distinctly different recording and other titles are unique to the album. Night Prowl is essentially a less frantic version of Interpol Chase. Judging by the labelling of tape boxes, the album may also have appeared in the Ember Mood Music Library series (ERL 3300), but this has not been verified.

Jacket :    EX-  

Laminated cardboard cover, in EX- condition, with no wear along seams and spine,  corners quite sharp, no ring wear on front cover,just a little peal off on lamination, along the open seam. On the back cover flipbacks are overall in excellent condition with no tears and missing portions, despite a tiny lamination pealed off on lower flipback where also a very light damp spot is also visible.

Overall a very smooth surface, with no cuts, no tears, no discoloration. Please, look at my cover scan.

Vinyl :   EX+

The lustre vinyl is in EX+ condition and could be easily graded as NM, unless, under a strong lamp, some minimal rubs are visible in transparency, absolutely not affecting the music.

Catalogue/Label :

LP EMBER EMB 3300 original 1st UK gold and red, deep groove, MONO label. Labels are in mint condition with no marks around the spindle hole. Please look at my label scans.

GRADING CODE

Grading is VISUAL, under a bright light. 

        NM  (Near Mint): Record has been opened, and probably played, but is in impeccable condition. I do not use "mint".

EX   (Excellent): Has signs of use or storage, but still considered top collection quality. Jackets may display some very light wear; vinyl may have a few light sleeve marks only visible in the highest light. Sound will full and clear, with little if any noise (NOTE, some records are just pressed poorly).

VG+ (Very Good Plus): Still a great copy but has a bit more wear. Vinyl may have some light scuffs or scratches, but nothing deep. Jacket may have some ringwear or seamwear. Sound should be great, with minimal if any noise.

VG  Very Good): A great play copy but clearly used. Vinyl will display many hairline scuffs or scratches, but will play with a tolerable amount of noise. Jacket may have splits and wear but will not be falling apart.

VG-(Very Good Minus): A used or worn copy, that has not been taken good care of. Vinyl will have many scuffs or scratches, but play through enjoyably despite audible background noise. Covers will have tears, splits, writing, or other issues. 

 G  Fair, Poor: A very rough copy. Will play through without skipping unless otherwise noted, although records of this grade are sold AS-IS.
