TONY NEWMAN ~ "Soul Thing" b/w "Let the Good Times Roll"
If you don't know it, have a listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPoOfPX91To
This is a perfect MINT- example of this ultra rare MOD gem! "Soul Thing" is a brass-driven, hammond-fuelled monster with a heavy drum beat provided by Newman, and this 45 is one of a handful of DEMOs that were pressed prior to the main production run (which was limited anyway). For years this has been the kind of eclectic "ace up the sleeve" dance-floor stomper that the top mod DJs stake their reputation on. It is in absolutely FANTASTIC condition - a couple of very light spindle tracks the only sign it was ever played. I'm confident this must be as perfect an example that exists anywhere. Plenty would grade the vinyl stonewall MINT but I've played it once myself and the spindle marks show it's been played at least once before. Nonetheless, it's flawless. The sound from my Technics 1210 is LOUD and RICH - a super-clean and exceptionally well-preserved copy.
PLEASE NOTE: Do NOT confuse this with the 1973 reissue. This is the original DECCA promo first-press from 1968.
