PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. To many American performers, Jo Ann Kelly was the only British singer to earn their respect for her development of what they would be justified in thinking as 'their' genre. The Groundhogs, Canned Heat and Johnny Winter tried to unsuccessfully recruit her into their bands...
At the end of the 1960s, with an album on a major record label in the United States, it seemed that Jo-Anne Kelly might be spirited away there and moulded into another Janis Joplin. However, her allegiance was to the United Kingdom and the nightclub scene... One of her two greatest albums is here, 1969's "Jo-Ann Kelly" delivers her brand of outstanding blues-rock featuring her slide guitar playing and...showcasing her voice which was far bigger than her slight frame would suggest; with a rich, deep, tonal quality that could easily have come from Dinah Washington.
After establishing a musical partnership with the British blues musician Tony "Groundhog" McPhee, Kelly appeared on two McPhee albums for Liberty Records, Me and the Devil (1968) and I Asked for Water, She Gave Me Gasoline (1969). She also appeared on two John Dummer Band albums John Dummer Blues Band (1969) and Oobleedoobleejubilee (1973)...Over the last ten years, people have begun to discover just how good a blueswoman Jo-Ann Kelly was and everything here is prime. Kelly's definition of blues is definitely loose, and this album shows the power she had, enough to put her up there with the top rank, and where her fretwork shows through a superb guitar player, with a slide technique to make many blues cats envious. Jo-Ann Kelly shows that you don't have to be male and African-American to have the blues. A record like this simply increases her legacy...
