Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. Original 1970 first pressing by the mighty SIR DOUGLAS QUINTET in their peak daze...gritty groovin' Texas roadhouse blues....
1970's "Together After Five" (referencing the number of years the band had been together), captured Doug Sahm and company chugging along on all their creative cylinders. This time around the album was heavily geared to Doug Sahm originals with the lone non-original being a cover of Bob Dylan's 'One Too Many Mornings'. 'Magic Illusion' and 'Nuevo Laredo' are the albums best 'rock' songs, and the album serves to showcase the band's musical diversity. Those years touring throughout Texas left these guys razor sharp when it came to playing together -- capable of handling virtually any genre including blues ('T-Bone Shuffle'), poprock ('Dallas Alice'), and conventional rock ('Revolutionary Ways').
From their years on the roadhouse circuit, 'Nuevo Laredo' stands as one of the band's classic performances.
The 'heartbreaking' ballad 'Dallas Alice' (amidst parental disapproval girl of privilege and long hair hippie fall in love) was definitely an unexpected oddity. Very pretty, it also had a very middle of the road feeling and not what you'd ever expect to heard from these guys...
'T-Bone Shuffle' is a blazing blues jammer that would have made its namesake proud. Morin and Sahm stole the show with their respective solos.
Normally a ballad like 'I Don't Want To Go Home' wouldn't make such an impression per usual, but Sahm's delivery managed to make this one of the band's most memorable performances. Stunning.
A weird story-teller number, 'Medley: Son of Bill Baety' has an interesting groove, including Sahm's nasal delivery...
'Backwoods Girl' is a cool mid-tempo rocker. The 'young girl looking for her way in tumultuous times' ...
'Revolutionary Ways' is the album's most commercial rock song -- surprised that Sahm and company didn't do more stuff in this vein since the results were so good.
Kicked along by Meyers' instantly recognizable organ, 'Seguin' a beautiful job of capturing the band's unique sound. One of the album highlights.
Sahm's rugged voice has always been an overlooked treasure and it was seldom showcased as well as on the bluesy 'If She'd Only Come To Me'. A stripped down Dylan-esque ballad, the results are stunning and includes one of Sahm's best electric guitar solos. Shame Dylan didn't have a voice as good as Sahm's
Showcasing the more commercial side of the band's repertoire, 'Magic Illusion' is cut from the same bolt of cloth as 'Medocino'. Not quite as impressive, though Meyer's instantly recognizable keyboards always make one smile when hearing the song.
The album closed out with a medley that blended their cover of Dylan's 'One Too Many Mornings' with the Sahm original 'Got To Sing a Happy Song' -- the performance is a grower with repeat listens...wish they hadn't faded the harmonica solo out so early.
