This very collectable first pressing plays to a superb standard for the vast majority with very little intrusion. There are no clicks or pops and any background is kept to a minimum. Truthfully there's only one track that has a little more background and that's some light statics / ticks during the first half of 'She Moved Thro' The Fair' on S2 but even then they are still quiet. The rest of the album is stunning with, like I say, hardly any background - the clarity and depth of the audio is very impressive. The vinyl itself has been played as there is some spindle wear but clearly it has been very well preserved as visually it is in lovely condition.
The cover has a little wear but nothing obvious and the poly-lined inner sleeve is in excellent condition. However, I'm pretty sure it isn't the original one.
This first pressing has the A1/B1 matrix and Celia is spelt as Cela on the labels.

Visual description
The vinyl is in superb condition and still has a lovely glossy sheen with no marks or scratches. Under a bright light I can see a few faint hairlines but there is nothing that stands out. In 'normal' light the vinyl is stunning. There is no groove or surface wear and the orange CBS labels are unmarked but do have some spindle wear around the centre ring.
Play Grading
The run in on S1 has barely any background so you are expecting good things! The long intro on 'Nothing Special' does indeed play with perfect clarity and Humphris opening vocal section is equally as clean and precise. The instrumental bridge is flawless and the next vocal passage has no intrusion either. So far there have no been no ticks, clicks, pops or background static the clarity of sound is stunning. I only heard a couple of barely audible statics that hardly deserve a mention and to the end it plays with sublime quality. Featuring strong guitar work from Clarke throughout this is a superb Mint- start to the album.
The very quiet intro on 'The Great Silkie' is close to perfect with only one 'obvious' light static and the first verse is very similar with only a couple of minor statics - they are not intrusive in any way, they are very much in the background. The second verse plays beautifully and the next has only a couple of light ticks at the beginning. The remainder of this quiet opening section plays with stunning clarity. As Brown's drums signal the start of the instrumental the playback is so strong and clear and this entire section plays with such quality. There is no distortion, no 'muddiness' to the sound - in essence it could not play any better. Humphris final vocal is 'as new' and and the acoustic ending is equal to that. I will grade the opening section as Near Mint- but the rest has to grade as Mint- the playback is incredible.
The intro on 'The Garden Of Jane Delawney' plays beautifully with only a couple of mega quiet statics at the beginning. The opening vocal section is close to that with only a couple of static ticks about one minute in but they are not loud I hasten to add! Just minor ticks. The next vocal is perfect, I cannot emphasise enough just how clean, warm and precise the audio is - it's such a strong emotive track and Humphris vocal is just beautiful. A handful of very quiet statics during the instrumental interlude and the final vocal is nigh on perfect as is the concluding instrumental and fade out. This is a stunning version with very little background and nothing intrusive. I will say Near Mint- but it is so close to Near Mint
The quiet intro on 'Lady Margaret' is very clean with only 3/4 minor statics and the next part has no background at all. The opening vocal section is the same and it continues in much the same way. There are a couple of minor ticks during the vocal section but for this 55 year old vinyl to play with such stunning clarity is a genuine rarity. The following instrumental has no intrusion and then Boshell's bass only section is close to perfect with only one static sound. The next instrumental led by Clarke plays with outstanding clarity and power and... no interference, the sonic quality is superb for a final track and there is no inner groove distortion. The final section again has no background and this classic grades as Near Mint but it's fair to say the vast majority is of a Mint standard. It's only marked 'down' due to those two light ticks.

The intro on 'Glasgerion' has a couple of minor statics only and the opening vocal section is as close to perfect as could be. The following instrumental is faultless and the next vocal is just as impressive. The long instrumental again shows just how well this vinyl has been looked after and plays with zero interference, there are only a couple of barely audible statics during the quieter passage. The end vocal plays with great clarity once more and overall Mint- is deserved here.
'She Moved Thro' The Fair' has only minimal static on the intro and three light ticks just prior to the opening vocal. The vocal then has some light intermittent ticks also but they are by no means loud. The following instrumental is perfect and the next vocal has only a small number of minor ticks. The quieter acoustic passage plays with sublime clarity for the vast majority and as this instrumental progresses the audio is superb! The clarity and warmth of the audio is up there with the best and Humphris final quiet vocal has hardly any background. The first half of this track is Ex and the second Near Mint I think that is a fair assessment of the audio.
'Road' plays with superb audio from the word go. The acoustic intro is so clean and Boshell's vocal followed by Humphris' is on the same level, a couple of barely audible statics that is all. This high end standard is kept up through the mid instrumental and the following vocal sections. The clarity of sound and the audio definition is STUNNING and Mint- is richly deserved. The gentle acoustic intro on 'Epitaph' plays beautifully as does the opening 'vocal'. The first verse is faultless and the second has only a small number of inconsequential statics. A couple of very light ticks in the next vocal and the remainder is close to perfect with only a handful of minor statics. Let's say Near Mint
The intro on 'Snail's Lament' has only minimal background and the opening vocal section is stunning with only two light statics. The first chorus plays with sublime clarity and the following instrumental is just as impressive. The next verse / chorus have no intrusion and again for a final track the audio is so strong. The 'louder' vocal towards the end perhaps has just a hint of inner groove distortion but in all honesty you hardly notice it, it still plays exceptionally well and the closing instrumental is perfect. The intro is Ex+ and whilst this may be a tad harsh I will grade the rest as Near Mint
The Cover & Inner Sleeve
The cover is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear. The edges have only minimal rubbing and the spine remains clean with no marking but is slightly indented here and there. The corners are in superb shape and the opening edge has hardly any handling wear either. The front cover has no obvious marking, just a few light marks / specks that you only see when you hold the cover at a certain angle. The back cover is similar with some faint ringwear near the top also. A strong example overall.
The poly-lined inner sleeve is in great condition with very little marking and only minimal creasing.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
