Description

HERE is THOMAS "FATS" WALLER in two epic, bullet-proof, early, hot piano solos from 1929:  "TURN ON THE HEAT" and "MY FATE IS IN YOUR HANDS."  Waller plays both with the inevitable momentum of a railroad engine, along with his cosmic sense of time and swing, perfect poise, deadly-accurate and fiercely melodic touch.  Fats is at his early, earnest best here. (He's also the composer of "My Fate.")  


This record does NOT turn up very often. I'd have to call it "extremely rare."  It was issued ONLY ONCE, on the very scarce Victor V-38500 "race" series,  neither side ever appearing in the "popular" series, or on any subsequent Bluebird or HMV releases, either.  And piano solo records didn't sell very well in the first place. 


THIS original 1929 "Scroll" "Race" Victor V-38568 is in V+ condition - - partly because of wear, but mostly due to the substandard shellac Victor was using at the time. My "E" copy sounds only a little better!  


(n. b. for best results, play it with a large - 4.0 - 4.5 mil - stylus. I always got a good sound out of it ... )

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
