TYRANNOSAURUS REX – My People Were Fair And Had Sky In Their Hair But Now They’re Content To Wear Stars On Their Brows ORIG Regal Zonophone LP / LRZ 1003 (UK, Mono, 1968)
Happy to present Marc’s first full LP proper featuring such superbly atmospheric songs as ‘Child Star’, ‘Chateau In Virginia Waters’ and ‘Mustang Ford’. And, of course, lest we forget, a 19 years-old Steve Took on percussion and general otherness. Comes with original ‘dinosaur’ insert.
The single format front-laminated tri-flipback sleeve is a nice example coming in at a solid VG+ (Very Good Plus) grade. Front laminate shows 4 handling creases (not large) and some small edge creases (tiny, really). Back panel has just one light crease to the top right corner. Not much softening of the corners. Slight feathering to the opening edges. NO edge splits, tears or writing. No evidence of edge wear with excellent intact spine, all lettering legible and clear (slightly browned). The back panel has some light staining and some dirt spots and also has a red star sticker placed in the top right hand corner. All told a solid example only showing its age on the rear (which isn’t totally tired, softened and beat up by any stretch).
The original deep red RZ mono labels are strong, showing moderate (not heavy) spindle evidence but maintaining good colour, sharp text and without writing, residue or other nasties.
The lyric insert is in EX (Excellent) condition. No rips or writing. Not much handling evidence.
The medium/heavy weight vinyl still retains the majority of its 1968 shine but shows some light (not heavy or ugly) marking. Between the 2 sides there are several hairlines, some small non-sounding scratches and some light inconspicuous scuffs. All this only really noticeable when examined in broad daylight. Still a nice-looking record which visually grades VG+ (Very Good Plus). IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and I’m happy to report the play grade exceeds the visual one. Apart from some light surface static (noticeable only between songs in the dead wax), there’s nothing to spoil your listening enjoyment of this vintage Bolan. There’s NO clicks, snaps or pops, NO hiss, distortion or loss of clarity/lack of definition. All I picked up between the 2 sides were a few light ticks on the last track of Side 2. Plays close to, if not full EX (Excellent).
The first Marc long player in a nice condition, supplied in what I believe to be the original poly-lined inner.

I do not use any more than ONE plus or minus between grades. After all, WHAT ON EARTH DOES VG+++++ MEAN? What is NM+? Or EX---? These are just some of the ridiculous gradings I’ve encountered on eBay. I am very careful using the EX (Excellent) grade. Excellent, by dictionary definition means‘extremely good’ NOT ‘marked and slightly beat up with wear’!
