Description

What It Is: This is the US pressing of the Animals' iconic and classic House of the Rising Sun 7" vinyl single, with the original picture sleeve signed by all five original members of the band. This configuration of the band lasted between 1962 - 1965, and as this record was released in 1964, it seems completely likely that it was autographed between August 1964 (date of release) and the following year when Alan Price was replaced by Mick Gallagher.

I did not get this single myself, but have no doubts that the signatures are genuine. The ageing of the signatures, and overall presentation is completely compelling as authentic. (Of course, I guarantee your satisfaction -- check out my "fine print" below.)

The signatures are distinctive and clear (see particularly the second scan). In the top left is written "ANIMALS", then, clickwise starting under Eric's head is "Hilton Valentine", John Steel, Alan Price, Eric Victor Burdon, and Chas Chandler (the man who helped bring Jimi Hendrix to England, recruited the other members of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and produced Jimi's first two albums).

Condition:

sleeve: VG. There's are two parallel white stains on and over Hilton's head (on the right), "64" is written in green ink on the back cover, both front and back have some wrinkling in the corners and there are 1/4" tears in the top sleeve opening (about 2" from the right edge) front and back. There are more small tears in the top sleeve opening. Then, there are the autographs, which look like they've faded a bit over the years, but it's still quite impressive overall.
record:
(visual) VG. there are significant hairline (very light) scratches on both sides, but the labels are excellent.
(play) VG. surface noise, but no skips and no significant groove distortion. Noisy, but not very distracting.

Grading standards:

All items are visually graded, and if they've been play graded that will be noted. I follow Goldmine grading standards. My grading is conservative, at least as good as I would expect from anyone that I would buy from.

Shipping cost and Insurance:

Within the USA: I ship via the US Postal Service, priority and media mail. Costs are based on the shipping weight and package size. Please contact me for shipping to other locations. As always, if your winning bid is above $50, I will pay for insurance within the USA.

Outside of the USA: I'm willing to ship outside of the USA, cost based on the winner's address and size and weight of the package. I usually insist on airmail for reasonable delivery time and better handling. I state the shipping size and weight in the ad so that you'll have an idea of cost, though final determination of shipping cost will occur when the auction completes. Unfortunately I can't offer free insurance as it often gets quite expensive for overseas shipment, however, I strongly advise that you select insurance as I cannot be responsible for delivery in another country.

A note about customs declarations: I will mark all auction wins as merchandise and list the winning bid as its value. Please don't ask to have it marked as a gift, or at a lesser price -- that only risks legal action (because it is fraud), and if customs opens the item they will probably charge you a customs fee anyway if they think that it goes over the legal value of a gift.
