Description
One of the most sought-after and uncommon Beatles rarities! A Hard Day's Night ~ Parlophone ~ PCS 3058 ~ Late '60s
- This incredibly rare and sought after pressing dates from 1968 - Early 1969
- Both labels contain the "Sold in U.K." text and both labels have the "Gramophone Co. Ltd" text on their rims
- Rarer small "stereo" cover, made and printed by Garrod & Lofthouse
- Includes original red/white EMI advertising inner sleeve
- Matrices: YEX 126-1 & YEX 127-2
- The -2 side 2 matrix is barely ever seen on these pressings due to an error in the cutting process. There was either an issue with the cutting tape, or the cutting process was started incorrectly, but the first split-second of the drum crack that opens "Anytime At All" is missing. Not many of these copies were pressed when the error was noticed, and EMI's production returned to the original first pressing -1 matrices for side 2 very quickly, which lasted all the way into the 1970s. For those who know the track well, the error is very easily noticable
- Stamper codes:
Side 1: 3,4 OT
Side 2: 1 AH
Note: I've only ever seen two other copies of this pressing ever for sale in my research. One was from Parlogram Auctions, which also had the exact same stampers.. and the other copy had the exact same stamper on side 2. I think that it's very likely that there were little to no copies with this side 2 matrix ever pressed during this initial run, the only stamper ever seeing use being the 37th from the first mother (1 AH) for this matrix before being swiftly corrected. If so, that would make this mis-pressing exceedingly rare, and something you'll almost never see - especially in this condition!
Item Condition
Due to how rare this record is, I can wager that this copy is one at the very top, nearly unrivaled for it's condition. I grade my records based on headphone listening sessions, through an Audio Technica VM540ML and Pro-ject Tube Box S playing on a restored Technics SL-D2 turntable
- Record - EX+/Near Mint - This record is absolutely pristine, it looks like it came out of the pressing plant yesterday! Only the very slightest wispy paper hairlines show, under an extreme light. The labels are smooth and untouched, and there are only the very slightest amount of spindle trails, likely from when I was play-testing this record myself! The audio is delightful, wonderful rich midrange heavy sound throughout, the only reason Side 1 grades as EX+ is due to 4 ticks at the beginning of "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You". Otherwise, the rest of this record, and all of side 2, showcases this mispress in absolute mint fashion, as close to this rare lacquer as is possible!
- Cover - EX: This cover is one of the later issues, bearing the "small stereo" indicator on the top right, on earlier copies the stereo text was larger, and on later copies the stereo text was omitted completely. It retains the shiny, minty gloss on it's front cover, with a couple of minor signs of wear, some very small wear on the openings, and corner bumps from storage. The rear panel and flipbacks are in a really nice shape, with only the very slightest hint of yellowing nearer the edges. The spine is perfect and so are it's edge pinches. An archive copy may be in slightly better condition than this, but it is still extremely hard to top!
- Inner sleeve: Absolutely perfect condition, I've never seen one in better shape! I'd recommend storing the record itself in a poly-lined inner sleeve if you can, as this would avoid adding any more hairlines to the already beautiful playing surfaces
