The Japanese Odeon / Toshiba EMI Ltd (Black Triangle Pressing) CP35-3016 pressing of Abbey Road was released 21 May 1983 and deleted in July 1985. After a complaint from EMI UK.
In 1983, Toshiba-EMI Japan released CP35-3016, making it the 1st official Beatles CD. It turned out, though, that they didn’t have legal permission to release anything under their name, so it was quickly withdrawn to avoid any legal problems.
Four years later, in 1987, a new version of Abbey Road was released worldwide, and was quickly panned by critics and Beatles fans alike. Why? Unlike the original release, it didn’t come from a flat transfer of the master tapes. It used a digital copy.
In fact, the CP35-3016 (often called the “Black Triangle” version in reference to the label artwork) has less dynamic range compression and (consequently) less hiss than the officially sanctioned 1987 version. Because of this, it’s generally held in extremely high regard and is considered the “Holy Grail” of Abbey Road releases.
BTW: In general, “Black Triangles” are 1st-generation CD’s that are highly sought after for their reasonably flat transfers from of the Japanese master tapes used for each edition that featured no noise reduction, and wide dynamic range. They only stayed in production for less than a couple of years (Much less with Abbey Road).
Technically the first Beatles CD - 100% legitimate just not authorised by EMI .
One of the first Versions on cd and probably one of the best sounding versions too, with the legendary black triangle label on the disc.
Matrix no CP35 -3016 -11 -1A1
This one has no OBI . The cd is overall in excellent condition for 30 years or more, and has little signs of age and use. The playside of the disc shows a few minor scratches and it plays and sounds great .The booklet contains the lyrics in english and Japanese and is in mint condition with gold staples. Box is in very good condition with minor marks.
