Description

THE BEATLES: "HELP!" LP - Rare Stereo Original UK 1st Pressing (Parlophone PCS 3071 1255)

How John Lennon's confessional song became the title for a silly James Bond spoof I really don't know. The funny thing is, it works both ways--as a young man's personal statement about learning to open up to others, and as the frantic theme for an exotic espionage chase comedy starring those lovable mop-tops (this time in color). Like A Hard Day's Night, only the first "side" of this album actually contains songs from the movie--the biggest hits being the eponymous cry for assistance and "Ticket to Ride." But part 2 has a few nice tunes as well, like "It's Only Love," "I've Just Seen a Face," and a little ditty called "Yesterday." And I always love it when they do an all-out screamer like "Dizzy Miss Lizzy," which sounds like John's raucous answer to Paul's "Kansas City/Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey" vocal on Beatles for Sale. Of course, it's essential--as are all the Beatles' soundtracks (all the Beatles' albums), with the possible exception of Yellow Submarine.

This is a STEREO original UK pressing from 1965, black label with yellow 'Parlophone' logo. Vinyl still has most of its original shine - it grades as excellent although with several superficial marks and scuffs on both sides, and a couple of light stylus marks on side one with no substantial impact on playing. Labels are clean - excellent to near mint condition with just a few light spindle marks. Matrix numbers are YEX 168-1 and YEX-169-1, while 'KT' tax code is stamped on label, side two.

Front-laminated flipback Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve with white-outline 'Stereo' is excellent with no ring, no split seams, no writing. Only a few minor laminate creases near edges, slight corner wear, and a couple of 'half-moons' by opening near Paul's legs prevent it from attaining a higher grade. Spine is clearly readable. These covers are prone to yellowing, but this one is remarkably white! Also present is all-important Emitex inner sleeve, in excellent to near mint condition. These issues are extremely hard to find these days - especially STEREO original pressings - in any condition. Don't miss your chance to own one! Once again, this is a stunning original first pressing from 1965!
