Description
So, how do you go about finding the ultimate rendition of Rubber Soul...? Well....Firstly, go for the third-cut which is the 5/5 matrix - widely regarded as the definitive take of RS. Then, if you're just looking for ultimate sonic purity - MONO is the way to go. Thirdly - try your hardest to find a copy which has barely been played. If this bucket-list is interesting you...read on...
This listing is for a 1969 NO S.I.U.K. Mono Rubber Soul on the Parlophone label. Matrix 5/5. Please note those labels look odd without the statement across the middle - but this is a supremely hard to find variation which was only in print for a couple of months during '69. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original Mono G&L cover with flipbacks. Also included is the original sepia inner sleeve as you would expect from this time. So, 100% complete and 100% genuine.
Vinyl (Ex+) Wowzers...take a look at those label shots...if only all copies looked that darn good! Judging by the way this copy looks its original owner did not play it much. Under close inspection we could only make out a couple of superficial trail marks [side 2] - the type that are at surface level and do not penetrate further...most certainly nothing remotely close to being feelable, or that will feature in the audio. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT+ level of playback. This copy is, without a shadow-of-a-doubt, the best RS copy I've ever auditioned. It is absolutely gorgeous. The audio is clear, precise, and without any sort of background interference. You might be able to make out a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments - but that's all that affects the audio. Never have I heard this level of purity on RS. I mean 'Michelle' - the usual problem track - is absolutely perfect even at high-volume. I detected just two crackles and it's as clean as a whistle. All the other tracks are just as good. It really is very very hard to find fault at all. Ok, ok,...there are two pops just before 'Nowhere Man' starts up. FINAL UPGRADE.
Cover (Vg+) Not up to the standard of the vinyl, but more than passable. Lovely shiny front with a couple of thumbnail creases and a 2c.m. rip in the opening down in the bottom right corner [tape repaired internally]. The rear looks good and has avoided the usual ageing process, but there are a few marks down in the bottom right corner. Edge wear is light and the spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover still retains great rigidity.
Inner (Ex) Very little ageing and no splits.
