Incredibly rare 1st US Stereo contract pressing of “The Beatles’ Second Album”. Pressed at Columbia Records, Pitman, NJ pressing plant, this copy contains one of the rarest label variations without the running time on the “I Call Your Name” on Side 2. The most commonly found 1st run labels of this album don’t have the running time for “Long Tall Sally” or “I Call Your Name” on Side 2. But when Capitol received the tapes for the songs, the company revised the initial label by adding the times for both tracks. When the BMI credit replaced the ASCAP credit for the song “I Call Your Name”, Capitol once again revised the label, but only on the Stereo pressing. The printer for the East Coast Stereo label not only changed ASCAP to BMI on “I Call Your Name” but also dropped the running time for the song and misprinted the song’s title as “I Call You Name”. When the error was discovered, Capitol revised the label once again, but still didn’t include the running time for the song. Original thick cardboard single-type cover contains the RIAA 3 factory designator number at the bottom right corner on the back, which in this case doesn’t identify the Scranton, PA pressing plant, but Modern Album Finishing Co., a New York based album cover designer, fabricator and manufacturer, as the copy is the contract pressing. The cover remains in its original factory shrink wrap. The album comes with an original light blue Capitol Records inner sleeve. 1st print Capitol black multi-color band labels with the Columbia Records 2.75” pressing ring and without the “A Subsidiary...” rim print. The 1st contract pressing vinyl manufactured at the Columbia Records, Pitman, NJ plant with the machine stamped “P” identifier and “o” symbol identifying the mastering by Customatrix. The full 1st pressing matrix numbers are as follows:

The cover in original factory shrink wrap is in outstanding Near Mint condition, just like the original Capitol inner sleeve that doesn't have any splits or tears. The glossy vinyl is graded as somewhere between strong Very Good Plus and Excellent Minus. It has just a few very light non-feelable hairlines as well as some very light scuffs from the original paper inner sleeve. The labels are in beautiful Near Mint condition and don't have any spindle marks, wear or scuffs. The vinyl sounds amazing with a punch, vivid and saturated Stereo sound.
