Description

An original 1st mono press of Pepper from 1967 on UK Parlophone. Matrix 1/1. What makes this example particularly interesting [from an historical point of view] - is that the cover is a "4th Proof". Which means it was the printers 4th attempt at a proof for the final retail version that would grace the shop shelves in June 1967. Proofing copies don't usually tend to get released to the public - but in the case of Pepper it seems some were released initially. This is your chance to bag one of those coveted historic copies. Note the mention of 'fourth proof' inverted on the flipbacks along with the printer code "AR D13217". We also have the original dark-green cut out sheet and the flame psyche inner by the Fool. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Vg+) In pretty decent condition despite a moderate level of use. If you're the sort of buyer who needs really clean surfaces - this copy is probably  not going to suit. There are a fair few light marks per side - this will put some folks off and I would suggest the buyer needs to be someone prepared to accept/compromise on this. If you were able to compromise the upside is that these marks do not appear to be too problematic and there doesn't seem to be too much effect thanks to the deep mono groves. Much of that original mono magic is left intact. E.g. WYWY is bloody fussy and it plays really sweet here. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly VERYGOOD+ level of playback with a couple of deviations per side. By and large a pretty clean player - I have to say I was quite impressed. Much of the original magic and finesse is still there for the listener to take in. You will detect a few crackles in the odd spot. For instance... the fussy intro to ADITL and here and there in WI64, occasionally in SLH [these are the fussiest spots anyway]. Nothing disagreeable. By and large it plays very well without noticeable interference. Expect a couple of minor ticks in a couple of isolated spots per side. One solitary pop at the end of SLH. But I would say overall - very adept and more than capable of delivering a decent rendition. 
Cover (Vg+) Nice clean front and rear on this highly collectable fourth proof. A couple of slightest creases - nothing stand out. The interior is absolutely spot on with a couple of ageing spots. Firm and secure flipbacks. Relatively little edge wear and firm openings. The spine looks ok - but the word 'Lonely' is a bit worn. A bit grubby in the odd spot - but perfectly acceptable. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Cut-Outs (Ex) Faultless.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing in a couple of spots. A couple of small edge splits - taped up.
