• “SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND” LP by The Beatles

• This LP is Capitol Records MAS - 2653.

• This LP was issued June 1, 1967.

• This is a MONAURAL (MONO) PRESSING.

• In fact, this is a FIRST PRESSING MONO COPY OF THIS LP. We know this because:

• “Subsidiary” is not in the label’s perimeter printing.

• The Side 1 label has the shortened song title “A Little Help From My Friends”. (The second Mono pressing has the correct title “With a Little Help From My Friends”.)

• The lyrics of the songs on the rear cover have the song title printed as “A Little Help From My Friends” instead of “With A Little Help From My Friends”

• First Pressing Covers do NOT credit Maclen Music or NEMS Enterprises. (Later covers added this information to the lower right corner on the rear of the cover.)

• The vinyl comes in its properly marked MONO cover (MAS – 2653)

• This LP is also a “DESIGNATED PROMO” copy, because it has the punch hole at the upper right corner.

• The VINYL was pressed in Capitol Records’ Scranton Pressing Plant. This is indicated by the triangle “?” containing the letters “IAM” in the trail-off wax. This is the symbol Capitol Records used to identify vinyl pressed at its Scranton Pressing Plant.

• The GATEFOLD COVER is in VERY STRONG VG CONDITION. This is a “DESIGNATED PROMO” issue with the promo punch hole at the top right corner. The cover has very light overall wear. The front cover slick has some light wear in the blue sky area at the top of the slick. The red rear cover is VERY NICE and does not show much wear at all as you can see in the images. (The red rear covers of Sgt. Pepper LPs were often prone to show wear more easily than the front cover.) I would have graded the cover VG+ instead of VG, but there is a 12-inch piece of clear tape on the top seam of the rear cover of the gatefold cover that holds the vinyl. (I don’t know why the tape was put there, because I don’t see any seam splitting, but maybe it was done as a precaution.) There is very minimal wear on the corners.

• The VINYL is in VERY STRONG VG+ to NEAR MINT MINUS (NM-) CONDITION with just several very light/slight surface hairlines/scuffs. The labels are nice and clean.

• This LP comes with its CUSTOM RED, PINK and WHITE PAPER INNER SLEEVE that has a 4-inch split on the bottom edge. This is the ORIGINAL SLEEVE that came inside this LP cover, because it has the “designated promo” punch hole through it.

• It also comes with the POSTER-BOARD SGT. PEPPER CUT-OUTS INSERT. This is the ORIGINAL SGT. PEPPER CUT-OUTS INSERT that came inside this LP cover, because it also has the “designated promo” punch hole through it. There are just very light signs of handling of the insert and some aging of the white reverse.

• The MONO version of this LP (especially the FIRST PRESSINGS), has become VERY DESIRABLE and HARD-TO-FIND in DECENT CONDITION. (I once read that John Lennon made the remark that you haven’t really heard Sgt. Pepper as it was intended to sound if you haven’t heard it in the original Mono.)

A FIRST MONO PRESSING OF THIS BEATLES’ LANDMARK LP with its ORIGINAL CUSTOM INNER SLEEVE and SGT. PEPPER CUTOUTS INSERT and VERY NICE VINYL that will be a great addition to your vinyl or Beatles collection!!!
