Description
This was The Beatles First American release by Vee Jay Records in 1963. The name was misspelled as 'The Beattles'. This is a white label Disc Jockey Advanced Sample. Has not for sale, on the label. Vee Jay is inside an oval and the record is white with a grey rim. My Father was a Radio Disc Jockey in 1963, when this was released. After corrected copies with the correct spelling on the name were sent out, he knew the value of this oddity, and saved it over the years. He recently passed away and I'm looking for a forever home for this special gem! "The Vee Jay Labeling Mishap
The Beatles were so unheard of in America in early 1963 that initial copies of VJ 498 did not even have the name of the band spelled correctly. Including the promotional copies of the record, there are seven label variations, four of which have “The Beatles” spelled as “The Beattles” (with an extra “t”). There are also corrected pressings of the record issued later in 1963. While copies of the first pressings are the most sought after by collectors, due to the novelty of “Beatles” being misspelled, any authentic copy of VJ 498, corrected or not, is quite a collectors item, as very few were pressed and fewer still have survived." In near mint, this goes for $2500, I feel this is priced very fairly for this condition. This is sure to make your collection the BEST around!
