OK folks, here's the REAL DEAL and NOT the Norton REISSUE. 14-track garage rock comp from Utica NY which is ultra low-fi and even clean copies sound crappy. But once you get around the fidelity issue, the music is some of the COOLEST regional garage rock ever and the music just reeks l-o-c-a-l! This record is impossible to find in any shape.
The Best of Twist-A-Rama U.S.A. showcases local garage bands from the Mohawk Valley area in Utica, NY. Produced by Hank Brown, this LP is based on the show "Twistarama" which spotlighted local bands in the Utica area in a manner similar to a local music scene "American Bandstand." This record is VERY RARE and sought after by 60's Garage Rock collectors. The fact that the LP was only available in local shops for a short period makes it more of a rarity.
Twist-A-Rama was a local Utica, NY, version of American Bandstand. When host Hank Brown started recording the local groups, he put them on this compilation album, which was sold at his record shops. Recorded in a basement studio under the most primitive of conditions and pressed on the cheapest low-grade plastic, this reissue really pushes the boundaries of lo-fi recording and barely capable garage band playing. Even with the inclusion of two better-played and -recorded bonus tracks by the Galaxies, this is one of the crudest '60s compilations you'll ever come across, and all the more charming for it.
