“Emerge” is one of the few albums balanced equally and squarely upon the cusp of garage punk and proto-metal and in many ways, it was the first second coming (sic) AND last stand of mid-sixties American garage punk. From the initial electronic echo waves which crossfade into a building ‘66 fuzz guitar snarl, side one’s opening “Journeys” is a blister burn. Twelve and a half minutes with “Future Of The Past” which opens with the most blaring guitar and lumpen heavy drumming unleashed in a spirit beyond bombast. But true to form it does fall away, clearing a sonic path for quiet intonations of “Marching burning empires/falling at my doggone feet” as it does. But then another air strike is called in and there’s a trembling explosion that once more shatters the once relative near-silence of the song with a loosely-based appropriation of “Hey Joe” at top speed, top volume, top heavy and top everything else that’s delivered with 1000% spirit. A drum solo breaks in and will wind up finishing off the track, serving more as a vehicle for extra energy discharge than anything else. (JULIAN COPE)

FINALLY ONE LAST WORD RE HAIRLINES, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ANY NON SEALED RECORD WITHOUT THEM, MANY HAD THEM FROM NEW. MOSTLY THEY ARE A RESULT OF STORAGE AND USE AND USUALLY HAVE LITTLE IMPACT ON THE SOUND QUALITY. THE SAME GOES FOR BACKGROUND NOISE, UNFORTUNATELY ALL RECORDS WILL HAVE SOME AND THIS VARIES AND REFLECTS THE PRESSING QUALITY. 

Most records have production marks where someone touched or moved the vinyl while it was still semi-soft.  These marks look like smudges, but are not scratches or "paper scuffs" and do not usually sound.  Untouched vinyl from newly-opened records have these marks.

How I Grade Condition Of Discs

Mint

This means I have owned it from new or purchased from a distributors warehouse, basically it means absolutely new shape, never been played or out of its dust cover. In the case of LP's, a North American album will have to be factory sealed (anyone can reseal an album!) Take Note: European and Japaneses albums were never shrink wrapped!

Note: Being mint does not guarantee it's free of pops and clicks, many pressings especially from the US were made with very poor vinyl and in a hurry which means often there are imperfections in the pressing. As a former importer, we were often given back brand new albums due to clicks heard in the playback.

Near Mint - Looks rarely played, very shiny with no visible marks

Excellent to Excellent Plus - A disc is super clean, with only very light visible marks that do not hamper play

Excellent minus is a disc that is excellent except it may have some markings that do not show up in the playing

VG - A disc that is STILL in good shape, WILL have some scuffs or scratches, not in excellent shape but well worth owning. VG + and ++,a disc that is that much better than VG.

VG minus, just a smidgen below VG
