Translucent Purple Vinyl, Custom-Printed Inner Sleeve, “Police Around The World” Insert
Vinyl = VG+; Cover = NM
This record is an original LP from the 1983 release of Synchronicity by The Police. Pressed on Quiex Translucent Purple Vinyl—a premium virgin vinyl reputed to be quieter than other vinyl stocks—the LP appears solid black until held up to a bright light. The cover artwork is a BRY (blue-Andy/red-Sting/yellow-Stewart) variant—one of at least 36 variations that were created and sold.
Synchronicity is the band’s fifth, final, and most successful album. It’s also, as one critic put it, “the sound of a group coming apart and coming together.” The last hurrah of a disintegrating unit is a well-worn path in rock and roll, the results of which rarely age well. Synchronicity, however, easily stood the test of time and lived up to its hype as a damn fine album.
Initial releases such as this one included a custom-printed, textured matte inner sleeve and an insert/order form for the upcoming “Police Around The World” video. This copy of Synchronicity by The Police was originally purchased at Tower Records on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood on August 22, 1983.
