Description
THE POLICE WALKING ON THE MOON (ROGER SANCHEZ EVA MIX)
UK 4-trk 12" DJ109 AM:PM Test Pressing
You are bidding on a very rare Police Test Pressing, given to me last week by my good friend who was the marketing director at A&M Kings Road, in London.
I bought his whole collection of A&M Police Acetates, test pressings and A&M artwork proofs since 2002, as he was a fan of the band. (I got the Message 12" test and Can't Stand 12" White Vinyl Picture Disc Test from him also).
I have just purchased the last of his A&M stuff, due to himself clearing out his loft as his moving house, and in the lot I bought was this test pressing of the 1997 promo only 12" released through A&M - The Police Walking On The Moon Roger Sanchez Mixes. I told him I have this already, when I got his Police records in the post, so he says sell it. So as I have this test pressing already and I need the extra cash, I thought I would give another serious Police or Sting collector a chance to buy it. No brainer really!
The label is a silver AM:PM Test Pressing label (A&M Records Dance Division, who released the previous Police single - Voices Inside My head in 1995 & 1996 on Double 12" and the rare CD Single).
You can actually see the outline of the white label underneath the silver AM:PM Test Pressing, like with all A&M Records test pressings of the 1990's they would either have a yellow Echtallian label where A&M would have the record pressed at the pressing plant in France or a standard white label. They would stick the label over it as only a handful were pressed, and was a quick and lazy method (according to the ex-A&M marketing director). (Sting 7" and 12" A&M Tests were like this too) I have checked against my own copy of this test pressing, and it is identical, so don't worry this is a genuine authentic pressing. You can't go wrong when you get records directly from someone who used to commission the pressing formats. I got my own copy of this back in 1998 from a record fair in London, which came from a rep who used to work for Polydor who would give out these test pressings to selected radio stations. My copy was one of them that was sold by the Polydor rep. The market director says only 25 - 50 copies would be pressed of this test pressing. My copy cost me £50.00 back in 1998. It was quite expensive, but the only copy I ever seen until he gave me this second copy recently, so perhaps this is one of the few surviving test pressings of this Police 12" as I have not seen another copy until now. Bearing in mind this is the test pressing of a promo only A&M release and includes 2 mixes only available on that promo 12" and still only available on vinyl and not CD to this day. (EVA Dub and Bass and Darkside of the Dub mixes, which incidentally are the best mixes.).
Vinyl is in VG+ condition and comes in a glossy hard white plain sleeve. Matrix number in the run out groove is AMPM DJ 109 A and AMPM 109 B on the other side.
This is perhaps your only chance to get this genuine A&M Test pressing direct from the marketing manager at A&M. He saved one copy of everything and this is one of them.
If I did not have this in my collection, I would not be selling this, so good luck and I will stat the bidding at a reasonable price. This is actually the last ever A&M test pressing to be produced, as A&M King Road closed there offices a couple of years afterwards.
I will not exept private offers this time, as I don't think it would be fair, as a lot of collectors I know will want this. I have 100% feedback and everything I have sold is authentic and direct from A&M's archives where I have sold doubles of what I already have. Satisfaction guaranteed and check out the feedback I have received from some of the world's serious collectors who have bought similar A&M test pressings from, including the Don't Stand 12" Test I sold for $7000.00.
I will post worldwide but will only sent via registered mail with online tracking due to the rarity of this item, thanks.
Best of luck.
