Description
In the past couple of weeks, over a couple of fun trips, I've bought a huge vinyl collection from a friend who worked with me at Phantom Records (in the '90's) and who'd amassed a gigantic collection of wonderfully kept and thoroughly researched LP's, 7"s and relevant 12"s - from the classic punk era (1976-1981) was his specialty, but also records from the few years after that era, as some of those bands progressed into the mid-'80's while keeping their integrity intact (the likes of Public Image, Siouxsie, the Cure spring to mind). To give you an example of his fastidiousness, his collection includes 60 different editions of the Pistols "Never Mind The Bollocks" LP - from every conceivable country, and every edition he could uncover. Anyway, he's been particular about maintaining items in their original condition - most he bought brand new at the time...(however this may mean that some he picked up second-hand weren't exactly mint to start with - those will be obvious by the gradings below). He'd been buying records I believe from about 1975/76 right up until recently. It's a truly wonderful collection; he'd not sold any of it previously so it was complete - some of the items are super rare and some are simply very nice copies of classic records - and I felt utterly privileged to be offered it first. Mostly though, YOU get to benefit from his meticulousness.
Here then, is one of the items from his collection:
ARTIST: The RIPTIDES -
TITLES: "SUNSET STRIP" / "MAGIC CASTLES" / "RULES OF LOVE" .
FORMAT: …vinyl 7" single…
LABEL: ABLE .
CATALOGUE #: AB-004 .
DATE OF RELEASE: 1978 .
PRESSED IN: Australia .
ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING?: The vinyl is, but the 'release' itself isn't...y'see, when the band were running low on this, they discovered they'd ended up with 'about 50 or 60' copies extra, without pic sleeves...so rather than re-print the covers they simply stamped the band name on the plain white sleeve and sold those last few off. So, it's official and naturally way rarer like this than WITH a pic sleeve...only thing is, do you want one with no pic sleeve? I imagine that many of you who are complete-ists will be interested. And others will want the PS.
The music?...1st and 2nd tracks are truly great punk-pop cuts...3rd tune is equally as good 60's garage-y pop...it's a brilliant record!
CONDITION:
COVER/VINYL: ( VG++ / VG+[+] )...paper sleeve has a few light stains and crinkling...vinyl has some very light marks only...and it plays beautifully!!...
LABELS: (Side One: EX- / Side Two: MINT )...Side One label has handwritten date on it...
If you have any concerns about the accuracy of my gradings, please check my feedback for the odd nice comment from some satisfied folk out there.... (and hopefully you may be able to join their ranks).CLICK ON SEE OTHER ITEMS ABOVE FOR SIMILAR GOODIES
