THE ROLLING STONES - 'BEGGARS BANQUET' - LK 4955 (Mono)

Original Garrod & Lofthouse Gatefold Laminated Cover Sleeve and Original Decca Inner Sleeve.

A very rare and excellent++ copy of the Original 1968 LK4955 Decca red and silver ffrr unboxed with the JT TAX CODE and original Garrod & Lofthouse Laminated Gatefold Cover and original white Inner Sleeve Cover with blue written text. 

Vinyl – The vinyl still has its brilliant shine, with a few light surface marks visible in the daylight. 

Labels –

side 1, has a few spindle marks, but centre hole looks almost untouched.  The label is bright and clear with no other visible signs of use.  

side 2 – again, has a few spindle marks, centre hole showing signs of use.  The label is bright and clear with no other visible signs of use.

Cover Condition – The cover is in stunning condition.  It has 4 light crease marks and light shelf wear to the corners.  There is a slight scuff on the front cover – bottom right hand corner, which can be seen in the photos. The opening does have thumb marks – but not over excessive.  The cover still has its high gloss shine and is in very good condition – This record is very rarely found in such good condition.

Cover condition – Inner Gatefold – Is in near mint condition.  There are light thumb marks on the opening and four creases.  The picture of The Rolling Stones together is A1, with no visible signs of damage – beautifully kept.

Spine Condition – All writing is clear & legible with one crease on the spine, roughly in the Decca area.  The spine is still completely laminated - there is a little mild laminate rub at top & bottom of the spine.  

Inner Sleeve – The original blue text polylined Decca sleeve is in truly amazing condition, apart from a small ripple on the bottom left hand side and a small blemish on the back – looks like a small thumb mark.  No tears, writing, splits or stickers – almost mint condition.

The last complete album recorded by the original band and a masterpiece. A return to their roots after Satanic Majesties. With the song "Sympathy For The Devil", the Stones sealed their fate as far as being labeled "devil worshipers", etc., by Christian and other religious groups, but of course the Devil isn't what this classic tune is about. The song is actually about the atrocities that unfortunately have been committed by mankind throughout history (yes, mankind is the devil in this song). By far the best written song ever by Mick Jagger or anybody else in rock, IMO. Keith Richard's acid guitar riff, along with his bass playing on this tune, also is A-1, as is Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts and Rocky Dijon's driving percussion; not to forget the great back up vocals by the entire band.  The rest of the album is just as classic. Keith Richards' driving acoustic guitars along with Brian Jones' sitar on "Street Fighting Man" make this song special; more great guitar riffs on the hard rocking "Stray Cat Blues" and "Parachute Woman"; a fine harp on the country "Dear Doctor", plus outstanding slide guitar by Jones on a great blues song, "No Expectations", with more of the same on "Jig-Saw Puzzle", a song Mick wrote about his then girlfriend, Marianne Faithful, who loved to do jig-saw puzzles.  This album isn't just for Stones fans, no. It really is for all people, like the ones Jagger is singing about in "Salt Of The Earth". So yes, do spare a thought for us rag taggy people, let's drink to the salt of the earth!
