The existing music sessions recorded by The Beatles in Hamburg, Germany became the subject of several bootleg albums which unexpectedly for everyone acquired a collectible status. One of the first such records became the currently listed “The Savage Young Beatles”. Just like every bootleg album, the recording date of this unofficial compilation was never officially announced, but it looks like it was released in the US in Fall, 1965. Despite the fact that this album was in the unofficial status for a long time, on January 1st, 2012 it went into the public domain in Europe, but in the US it’s under copyright and is still owned by Universal. The first edition of this album is considered to be extremely rare as it was issued in limited quantity with the orange cover and a white frame running along the border. The currently listed copy represents the reissue that quickly replaced the first issue and which is no less rare in a factory sealed Mint condition. Unlike the original orange cover, this issue has a yellow sleeve and represents the second issue with the 1st print cover factory sealed in a loose protective baggy where the catalog number “BM 69” at the top right corner on the front is printed in black as oppose to red as can be seen on the subsequent reissues. The text at the top of the front cover has a misprint reading “This is the…..The Savage Young Beatles” having 2 “the” which was never corrected on any licensed copy. The liner notes at the top of the back cover are modified and don’t contain the mistake about “two instrumentals” which was present on the back cover of the 1st issue. While the cover implies that all the songs were recorded by The Beatles in Hamburg, only half of the record's eight songs have any Beatles involvement. The other four tracks are the same Tony Sheridan recordings that rounded out the Polydor album "The Beatles First!". The songs on "The Savage Young Beatles" were most likely dubbed from an import copy of the German Polydor LP.
