The Sisterhood Gift LP Sisters of Mercy
1986 UK release on Merciful SIS020-2. Record has one or two superficial marks, but nothing to affect sound significantly. Likewise, sleeve has a couple of little superficial marks.

First of all it is NOT Andrew Eldritch singing on this record, it's James Lucas. Eldritch wrote the songs and probably programmed Dr Avalanche but didn't sing. If you are buying this album you are probably already a Sisters of Mercy fan and therefore probably know this.
This was a side project to fulfill Eldritch's commitment to WEA on how many records he had to produce in a specified time. It was recorded after the breakup of the original Sisters (Wayne Hussey and Craig Adams formed The Mission) and put together to stop Hussey and Adams using the Name the Sisterhood (which Eldritch thought was too close to the Sisters Of Mercy).
The single Giving Ground was released prior to this to acheive that objective. Surprisingly given that this was an experimental record it is quite good and fits into the Sisters of Mercy
cronology. I'd like to think that this is the sound that would have resulted had they stayed together between First and Last and Always and Floodland.
In my opinion although not as good as the 3 Sisters studio albums it is better than you'd expect. There are only 1 or 2 weaker tracks. Rain From Heaven and Giving Ground alone are worth buying the Album for. Jihad has Patricia Morrison (Bassist on Floodland) saying 2,5,0,0,0 repeatedly (reportedly
the compensation Hussey and Adams had to pay Eldritch for trying to use the Sisters of Mercy name)Finland Red is a song about gun bullets for the AK47. Colours is a bit repetitive.
All in if you are a big Sisters fan it's worth getting this album.
