The Smiths ‘The Smiths’ Debut LP Rare Promo/Test white label Copy with original promo sheet.
Owned since new.
I worked in a record shop in the early ‘80s and this was a promotional copy delivered to us by Rough Trade. I didn’t play it at the time, and it has sat in the back of my LP collection ever since. This came in the plain white outer sleeve because the cover would not yet have been finalised [original covers for this record, if required, can be bought very cheaply].
These test pressings are rare. They were the first copies off the original matrix, and have a higher quality sound than the commercially released LP.
The LP comes in its original plain cardboard outer sleeve (I wrote ‘Smiths?’ on the sleeve when it first arrived in the shop ).
Inside that is the promotional leaflet and the LP in its original paper sleeve.
The run out groove is hand cut with ‘ROUGH 61 A1’ and ‘ROUGH 61 B1’ on each side.
The A side also has ‘timtom/cbs‘ on it (see pics) Tim Young was a famous British Mastering and Cutting engineer.
Cover and sleeve both show signs of slight discolouring due to age. Record is pristine and unplayed.
