On an annouced 78rpm Black & Silver label Columbia 211, recording

pioneer George W. Johnson sings anonymously "The Whistling

Coon." Johnson also does the whistling.


I believe that Johnson was the first African-American to record.


I am guessing from the very low catalog number that this single-sided

disc would have been recorded in 1901.


It is in V+ condition. There is a dig which ticks several times, but

passes.
