Description

Miklos Rozsa: Spellbound (1945 film score for Theremin and orchestra). ARA Album A-2

Scarce original issue 1940s set of 4 10" 78rpm records, with a rare serious original composition for the Theremin, the soundtrack to the classic Alfred Hitchcock suspense film. The unusual early electronic instrument is highlighted during the Salvador Dali-designed dream scenes; this became the first time most moviegoers ever heard the device. No performers are credited but it is almost certainly Dr. Samuel J. Hoffman playing the Theremin.

Rosza was a Hungarian composer known for his film scores who was influenced by Bela Bartok and Zoltan Kodaly and associated with Arthur Honegger, Richard Strauss, and Bruno Walter.
