Genuine UK super early first edition (check the matrix) with the picture/lyric insert.

This LP formed part of a superbly preserved collection. Bought new at the time of release, the former owner (a librarian, really) was fanatical about looking after his vinyl and this record was only occasionally played on a Linn deck. Please see the other LPs from this collection we are currently selling, all of which are Excellent to Mint.

This record is deleted and not available new on vinyl.

Overall Sleeve Condition : VERY GOOD.

Front cover: Laminated cover. Tiny creases and a few little lifts just beginning, very light rubs. Original insert with a few tiny marks and tiny creases.

Rear cover: Laminated rear cover, light rubbing and a few tiny creases.

Edges: No seam splits. Very light rubbing in a few places.

Corners: Very light rubs.

Opening Slit:  Slightly roughened.

Vinyl Condition, Visual: EXCELLENT (NEAR MINT).

No serious marks or damage. A few really tiny light marks, does not look worn or seem to have had heavy play, kept in a polylined inner sleeve.

Vinyl Condition, Audible: MINT.

Plays superbly. Well preserved and cared for, no decrease from the original sound quality. Kept in stunning condition by the previous owner. No skips, no jumps, no sign of heavy play, no wear. One tiny crackle on intro S1 T1, but this really is a superb sounding clean copy of a semiacoustic album.

There was a big and obvious change to Tyrannosaurus Rex on their fourth album, A Beard of Stars, as Steve Took was replaced by Mickey Finn, with Marc Bolan remaining the true captain of the duo act as singer and songwriter. Of more significance was the change in the band's sound, moving into far more electric rock territory with much greater use of electric guitar, though Bolan's songs were still often grounded in the fairytale-like musings of his earlier work. It was still a ways off from his glam rock approach, but it was definitely more accessible than the relatively homespun elflike folk-rock of the earliest Tyrannosaurus Rex albums. It also made some effective use of organ and somewhat more pop-friendly, conventional tunes like "By the Light of the Magical Moon," "Elemental Child," and "A Daye Laye," though weirder items like "Wild Cheetah" and "Dove" bore a slight similarity to some of Syd Barrett's gentlest compositions.

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in the sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (US version of this term: Near Mint): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in the sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (US version of this term: VG++): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover, or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (US version of this term: VG): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits etc.
