An extreemely scarce 1st UK pressing on the original vertigo spiral label (Listed not for its condition) but for its mega rarety! Please note! I have played this album through track for track at very loud volume prior to listing. The first thing to note is that the audio is mega clear and vibrant throughout without the usual distortion normally found on these early pressings! This plays through quite amaizingly without any major background of surface noise and even in between tracks there is minimal noise at all.. However it is important to note that this does play with static clicks in places so please be aware that these were evident. Having said this I found this vinyl very very playable and compared to the later more common pressings of this album there is absolutely (no) comparison to the absolute vibrancy that 1st pressings produce! This is complete with the original 1st press Vertigo gatefold cover and vertigo record sleeve! A very very rare and collectable album indeed very rarely appears for sale! 

Salisbury is the second album released by British rock band Uriah Heep!.

More squarely in the progressive rock genre than their debut album from the previous year, it featured their first foray into large–scale composition, with the 16–minute title track featuring a 24–piece orchestra. It also includes the largely acoustic ballad "Lady In Black."!

The album was originally released on the Vertigo label, as had been the band's debut Very 'eavy... Very 'umble, but both were soon re-released when the band signed to Bronze for their third album!.

The connection of the artwork to the title is readily explained. Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England, is an Army training-area. On the front of the album sleeve is a British Chieftain tank. The original LP release was a gatefold-sleeve, with a b/w picture inside of a British tank of the First World War, over which were printed Hensley's comments on each track. Later reissues would be in a single sleeve!.

Very very earliest possible matrix!

The vinyl

This retains its original sheen from new and lays perfectly flat on the turntable! In strong light There are some surfacemarks\scratches evident which (do) produce some static clicks in places!

The Audio

Played through prior to listing at very loud volume! The first thing to note! Amaizingly there this (no) distortion throughout nor any signs of grooveware! Very rare to find on these earliest pressings! However please allow for some static clicks evident during the play! There are (no) skips or jumps and in my honest opinion I found this extreemely enjoyable,, The vibrancy of the audio and absolutely awesome, rich bassey feel is evident right from the start (only found like this on 1st pressings). Truly stunning seperation. These early originals can not be compared to later reissues of this album. Pressed from the earliest possible masters makes this highly desirable although there is some interfearance as previously described! but extreemely playable and still enjoyable in my personal opinion.

The labels

These are the original vertigo spiral labels! (only 1st press) minimal spidering can only be seen angled to the light. side A. shows some ink marks aroung the spindle hole which could possibly be removed.

The Record Sleeve.

This is the original Poly lined Vertigo Sleeve (no) edge ot side splits. There is a tare on one side around the die cut hole but this is unusually clean for its age!

The cover

This being the original 1st press Vertigo Gatefold cover (normally seen in a terrible state) this has just light general storage are in the form of light general creases and light general rubbing with age but no nasty names written and is strong and straight as it should be!

To sum up! This is very highly collectable being the very 1st UK pressing of this album and certainly from my personal experiance, one of the hardest and most sought after Uriah heep albums to ever find in any condition! Please note! There is general ware and tare as I have described but still a very enjoyable playable copy, For those who wish to own an original 1st press of this album.
