Own a rare and unique piece of music history with this extremely unusual promotional box set from Playboy Records!

The Box!

Let's face it, you're probably here for the unusual piece of Playboy and music history, so let's get to it! The box unfolds into an illustration of a woman with a Marilyn Monroe look, including a "mole" of the Bunny logo lust below the left corner of her mouth. She's wearing a "see through" blue teddy. Lifting the "skirt" reveals instructions for folding/unfolding, storage for four promotional albums, a folder of sales collateral and 8x10 glossy headshot photos of the artist, and... since this is Playboy, the woman's black underwear, garters, and stockings! The legs and upper body secure to the box "body" via brass grommets. The head and arms are grommeted to the upper body. They all move freely and cleanly. The illustration is by Richard Huebner with concept and design by Glenn Ross and Cathy Deeter.

I couldn't find any reference to this item, the illustrator or designers. This was my father's. He was a record distributor/salesman for Playboy Records in the 70's. In those days it wasn't unusual for labels to produce short runs of odd or eye-catching items. This is one of the most unique examples I've seen, though! By way of authentication I can share photos of him from Billboard receiving a sales award that included a stay at the Chicago Playboy Club, as well as industry paperwork.

The contents of the box are all in mint or near-mint condition. The box itself has wear from being unfolded/folded, and the edges of the box show wear from storage. Please feel free to request additional photos showing condition.

Sharon Cash, "Sharon Cash" (PB 114) Matrix Marks 7514-A, 7514-B. Sleeve does not have a promotional sticker. The LP is labeled "Promotional Copy". The original "Foreplay" promotional review sheet is present in the inlay.

Sam Russell, What's Usual Ain't Natural (PB 108) Matrix Marks 7508-A, 7508-B. Sleeve has a "PROMOTIONAL COPY NOT FOR SALE" sticker. The LP is labeled "Promotional Copy". The original "Foreplay" promotional review sheet is present in the inlay.

Brownstone, "Brownstone" PB 110 Matrix Marks 7514-A, 7514-B. Sleeve has a "PROMOTIONAL COPY NOT FOR SALE" sticker. The LP is labeled "Promotional Copy". The original "Foreplay" promotional review sheet is present in the inlay. Gimmick half-cover sleeve with die-cut punch-out windows, all windows are intact.

Laurie Ray Cohen, "Under the Skunk" (PB 111) Matrix Marks 7511-A, 7511-B. Sleeve "PROMOTIONAL COPY NOT FOR SALE" sticker. The LP is labeled "Promotional Copy". The original "Foreplay" promotional review sheet is present in the inlay. Gimmick album sleeve has a half-sleeve "skunk cap" that slides off the top of the main full sleeve.

The original glossy grey "Playboy Records" sales collateral folder is present and in mint condition. The folder includes 8x10 glossy photos and what appears to be hand-typed packets for each artist. The packets are typed on heavy grey paper with diagonal "Playboy Records" branding/letterhead at the top. Each packet is stapled in the upper left corner and there are no folds or marks to suggest that these were ever opened out or read.

The photos are printed with the artist name, "Bunny" logo, and the Playboy Records and Music Sunset Boulevard address and phone number. There are two photos of each artist except Brownstone. There is one photograph of the band, plus two photographs of vocalist Barbara Lopez
