Description
This is a really GREAT radio show about Savoy jazz tracks found in the vaults and unreleased before Arista came out with a series on each artist. I listened to the whole show, both sides, and was entertained and educated. Discographer Bob Porter was hired to go through Savoy's master tapes from the 1940s to 1960s, and he spent six months at it. He gives a brief history of Savoy, plays a Hot Lips Page tune that will kill you, "Uncle Sam ain't no Woman but he sure can take your man." Covers the changing times for jazz in Harlem, and plays unissued Earl Warren (with Basie), Lester doing "Blue Lester," Bird doing some master takes, including the magnum opus "Coco" with Diz, also some very earlyCannonball, Coltrane, Wilbur Hardin - fantastic music, and a great radio show!
In a plain white sleeve, this was a promo for the upcoming series. The vinyl is clean, only a few superficial paper scuffs.
