United Pentecostal Church- Roger Overton & The Gospel Waves Lp (mid/late 1970’s).

Condition: Very Good (VG)

Comments: Vinyl shows a few scuffs and scratches but play is quiet for the most part. Crackles and pops are regular, but they do not get in the way. No skips.

Reverend L. D. Overton (obituary)

Reverend L. D. Overton was born on November 30, 1919, in Colbert County, Alabama, and passed to be with the Lord on October 14, 1995. He ministered at the First United Pentecostal Church in Florence, Alabama, for over thirty-five years. On July 10, 1941, he repeated wedding vows with Nettie Mae Lawrence. One June 4,

1944, he received the gift of the Holy Ghost. Two months after receiving the Holy Ghost, Brother Overton was called to serve in the Army, and was honorably discharged about six months later. When God called him into the ministry, he held prayer meetings in people's homes and preached tent revivals in brush

harbors until finally he built a small block church in Greenhill, Alabama, where he stayed for fourteen years. During this time he also held revivals in Alabama,

Mississippi, Tennessee, and Kentucky. When the attendance at the block church in Greenhill grew, the church built a new building in 1960. In 1982, his son, Reverend Roger Overton, became co-pastor; in 1985 Brother Overton semi-retired and assumed the title of co-pastor and his son assumed the office of pastor.

Brother Overton gave his life, strength, health, and talent to preach the gospel message, including one God, baptism in the name of Jesus Christ, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost. On October 11, 1995, Brother Overton preached his last sermon on earth using Acts 8:14-23 as his text. The funeral service was held on Monday, October 16, 1995. Officiating was L. H.

Mrs. Nettie Sue Overton

Mrs. Nettie Sue Overton passed on Feb 18, 2003 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. Sister Overton grew up in Tuscumbia and lived most of her life in Florence. She and her husband, Rev. L.D. Overton Sr., who passed away in October 1995, dedicated their lives to the service of the Lord in 1944. In addition to her husband, a son, Virgil, preceded her in death in October 1970. She was a professional seamstress. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and church mother….

Rev. Roger Overton

Rev. Roger Overton, 63, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, after a brief illness. Rev. Overton was an ordained minister with United Pentecostal Church on Broadway for more than 30 years. Rev. Overton was strictly dedicated to his church and family. He was an avid hunter and member of the Waterloo Hunting Club. Rev. Overton was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. L.D. Overton Sr.; one sister, Gloria J. Orr; one brother, Virgil Overton…
