THE LASER BEATS
Mr. Popcorn Man
b/w
Barbara
Audio Recorders of Arizona, Inc. acetate
CONDITION: Vinyl is EXCELLENT Slight lip warp in the area BEFORE the grooves, NOT affecting play
'60s Arizona band that featured Neal Smith, later of the Nazz and Alice Cooper.
Smith even wrote the music to "Mr. Popcorn Man" (with "lyrics" by sax player Roger Eich).
I can't find any evidence that these tracks were ever released, unlike their single of "Rampage".
"Mr. Popcorn Man" has a "Wipe Out" kind of sound, with some wacky dialogue mixed in.
As the music speeds up, we learn that the popcorn man goofed, and everybody is being buried in the stuff!
"Barbara" features teener style vocals, with surf-style instrumentation (and a Ventures-influenced guitar break).
I would have preferred an instrumental to these clichéd lyrics, but that's just me.
Lead guitarist Skip Ladd later turned up in the psych band 20th Century Zoo, and can be heard on both their
album, "Thunder On A Clear Day, and cool single "You Don't Remember".

I can send two 45s overseas for the same price as one. And speaking of that price --
To my overseas customers: The U.S. postal service just raised their rates on
Monday, 28 January 2013. I want you to know that the higher shipping charges
are THEIR fault, not mine. Thanks to this substantial rate hike, the days of
shipping a well-protected 45 for just 7 or 8 U.S. dollars are over.
The higher rates affect ALL packages sent to locations outside the United States, and all
buyers and sellers are affected.
Another important note: More and more packages sent overseas are getting hung up
in customs. It is not unusual for some packages to take 6-8 weeks to reach buyers,
even though they're being sent out within a day or two of payment.
Germany, France, Italy, Greece, and Australia have all reported longer than
usual customs delays. Please be patient -- I mail packages out very quickly,
but the rest is up to the postal service!
