Description
RON CARTER All Blues. Used vintage gatefold LP in Very Good+/Very Good+ condition. CTI Records Catalog # CTI 6037; 1974
Condition: Vinyl could use a “deep cleaning,” but only has minor scratches. LP jacket is thick cardboard gatefold with super-glossy finish. Some fingerprints and discoloration that resist removal, but totally intact.
Behind the Music: I have seen/heard Mr. Ron Carter perform live several times, most notably at the planned reunion (c. 1976) of the Classic Miles Davis Quintet from mid-1960s which morphed into the group VSOP when Miles failed to show (Freddie Hubbard filled in that night). I consider Mr. Carter the pre-eminent Jazz bassist, period. His long, skinny, but incredibly strong fingers could do things to strings I’ve never ear-witnessed from anyone else. PERSONNEL: Carter—Acoustic and Piccolo bass; Joe Henderson—tenor sax; ‘Sir’ Roland Hanna & Richard Tee—keyboards; Billy Cobham—percussion. CTI stands for Creed Taylor Incorporated. This is but one of the notable recordings he produced over the years, always featuring the highest technical standards and deluxe graphic designs. For a period in his career, he linked up with Herb Alpert’s A&M Records for distribution. [See my listing for SOUL FLUTES: Trust in Me from 1968, with its outrageous LP jacket artwork.] All Blues was recorded by Rudy Van Gelder in 1973. The title tune is the famous Miles Davis composition; the five other selections—mostly Ron Carter originals—are: A Feeling; Light Blue; 117 Special; Rufus; Will You Still Be Mine.
- About the seller: I am downsizing my personal belongings, and you can benefit. Unless otherwise indicated, all my records have been owned by me alone and treated with loving care. No scratches or gouges. I have been a Jazz radio broadcaster for 30+ years, but my musical tastes are wide-ranging. You will see this as my listed offerings grow. New items added weekly, check back often!
PLEASE NOTE: I will not sell anything for less than $9.99, as it’s not worth packaging the item up and taking it to the Post Office. Sure, you can buy an LP for 50 cents or less at a yard sale, but will it have been cared for like mine? Not likely.
FREE SHIPPING to U.S. address for purchase of any item of $100 or more.
