PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. RARE local Louisville Kentucky private pressing ...one of only 500 made in 1970, her, is the first pressing titled "Flying Up Through the Sky" by the OXFORDS ...The Lp is a time capsule, to be sure, and a superb one that transcends its era on sheer exuberance alone.
The material from the original LP tends to grow on the listener like fungus. The melodies are largely Technicolor bright and the sentiments have a paisley-eyed optimism that seems endemic to the late '60s alone. The harmonies of leader Jay Petach and DeMarco approach the sort of oxygenated buoyancy of the Free Design, but way way better, and with an earthier charm. The music may strike some as a tad naïve, but it fits the insouciant mood of the period perfectly and 43 years after the fact still sounds fresh. At times ("Come on 'Round," the wah-wah laced "Young Girl's Lament") the band flashes more substantive hints, sounding something like the Jefferson Airplane's tough but yet deflowered younger sister, unsettled but still unspoiled. The rearrangement of the Quechua Indian song, "Sung at Harvest Time," is beautifully, eerily psychedelic, and the avant-arranged experiment of "Two Poems by e.e. cummings," while not really successful as a pure listening experience, is bizarrely appealing.
The Oxfords received two label offers, but they had to give up the rights to their songs. They declined, so they pressed 500 copies of this Lp themselves and released the record under their own label in 1970, but they didn't have the means to promote it.
Overall the album is a great example of psychedelic tinged pop-rock perfection, the self penned compositions are beautifully infectious, with soaring harmonies that are often breathtaking. Why they never made it big time is a total mystery.
In the end, 1970's "Flying Up Through the Sky" served as an amazing time piece. Tte results manages to blend the best ingredients of '60s poprock & lite-psych touches. Simply brimming with killer melodies, amazing group harmonies ('Lighter Than Air'), nifty arrangement, and adventuresome detours (check out their musical adaptation of E.E. Cummings' 'Two Poems'). Sporting a pair of gifted vocalists certainly didn't hurt their efforts. While singer/multi-instrumentalist Jay Petach had a knack for handling the group's more accessible numbers ('(There's) Always Something There To Remind Me'), to our ears the real star was guitarist singer Jill DeMarco (who was previously in the tough garage/punk group "She"). Jill simply has a awesome voice that was capable of handling commercial stuff and much tougher faire like the bruising wah-wah guitar propelled blues-rocker 'Young Girl's Lament'. Can you imagine Grace Slick having the guts to handle a song like the psychedelic kalimba propelled 'Sung At Harvest Time'? Had the Lp been released a couple of years earlier and enjoyed major label support this could've been a massive hit !!! Wholeheartedly recommended!

CONDITION: The cover: solid all over with only very light shelf wear, it's a definite keeper given rarity of one in only 500 ever made, we rate it VG++ and thee are no split seams, no bends, and bright original colors. The back cover group photos (photo #2) have the authentic signatures of 3 of the 4 members (including the two main performers Jill De Marco & Jay "Flash" Petach ...
The vinyl: all glossy over both sides; "EX"(excellent) ...plays clean and enjoyable, no one interested in it would put it down.... clean UNION JAC labels tooo ....all in all, one to grab
