This is an extremely rare original 1977 pre-release test pressing of Van Morrison's "comeback" album, A Period of Transition. This is the much rarer earliest test pressing, with the earlier release date of March; most of the ones you see are the later masters, with the adjusted release date of April, and those were the masters that passed. The pressure was on both Morrison and the label to really put this record over, so they had to be sure it was perfect, and they were very careful to listen to the test pressings very closely, and this one was rejected, and the release date was pushed back a month so new masters could be made. Listening to it I can't tell at all what would be wrong with it-- it sounds perfect. Anyhow this record comes in a plain white cover with the catalog number stamped on, and "Van Morrison" and "Period of Transition" hand-written. There is an information sheet included, listing the various particulars. The date of December 1977 is a mistype. It was probably January or February. The label explains that the record is only for authorized personnel to use for testing and review. The disc has some very slight sleeve marks but is really very nearly perfect mint. A beautiful sounding copy... hard to say why it wasn't used. The cover and info sheet have only the slightest shelfwear. This is a very rare record and a near-perfect copy. Beautiful.
