Items in this lot are:
  • John's Gospel Quartet -- Label: Wango Records, 4801 Harford Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21214 -- Record#: LP 103

Special note to foreign bidders: I declare foreign shipments as merchandise with the value you bid for them. Shipment to foreign buyers is via priority mail international with insurance for the value bid. Please e-mail for shipping costs before bidding as this method costs more, but is insurable and trackable. Example: United Kingdom 1-2 pounds $40.85 + $2.00 box/tape/pack = $42.85.

Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying.

Alternatively, if the ending winning bid is less than $20 and if you have perfect feedback and want this shipped first class international, it could be shipped that method with the understanding there is NO REFUND FOR ANY REASON since the item cannot be tracked online or insured. Example: United Kingdom 1-2 pounds $17.88 + $2.00 = $19.88.

Feedback/bidding policy: I check feedback daily and will return feedback promptly. Although I go to great lengths to accurately describe my items, if you feel the merchandise is not as described, e-mail me BEFORE leaving feedback and we will resolve it. Please note I do allow returns (see return policy below).

Description: Up for your consideration is the next in a series of unique Lps, this one featuring Ralph and Carter Stanley.

Several unique things about this item: Firstly, the record retains the original shine with only a few light marks grading by sight in normal room light. I'm sure if you took this and put it under a 1000 watt bulb, you'd probably find something that makes it less than mint. If you're that kind of collector, and after a recent unpleasant experience with a buyer from Malaysia, let me suggest this auction is not for you.

I took the time to play this disc and found the tracks to audibly average better than 1/3 of the way between VG+(excellent) and Near Mint. The only track I had an issue with was track #2 of side 1 which had 15-20 light/medium pops. There appears to be a piece of grit or something on the track, if that could be removed, the sound on that track might improve.
You can assign your own grade based on my comments and the scale shown below.

At the time of this listing, no present sales found on e-bay. I found three past sales out on the Internet ranging from $201-$362 !! None of these sales showed a cover and the item I have appears to be a homemade cover (see description below).

So this is your chance to own a unique item at a reasonable price. Bid early and often so you don't miss out on this auction!

It is further described below, please take the time to read before bidding.

Please e-mail if questions.

Be sure to check my other listings to save postage on multiple winning bids. Please explore the "me" link next to feedback rating) to check out my store and some of the 15,000+ records / CD's / cassettes / DVDs I have for sale as well as the LP to CD transfer service I offer.

I am using the Goldmine scale of G=Good(1), VG = Very Good(2), VG+ = Very Good Plus(excellent)(3), NM = Near Mint(4) when grading the disc(s).

Here is a summary of the record(s):

Artist: Ralph and Carter Stanley Title: John's Gospel Quartet Record: Black vinyl with original shine, a few light marks, grading by sight in normal room light. Some flaking/scuffing on side B - see scans. Labels: Black with silver print. No stickers, no pen/pencil marks, some spindle marks. Trailing wax: Side 1: "R1612A". Side 2: "R1612B" Inner sleeve: A generic sleeve will be supplied. Cover: Corners with up to slight wear. Slight general/ring wear front/back. Small spotting front/back. This appears to be a homemade cover. On the front is written "Wango LP103 John's Gospel Quartet with Ralph and Carter Stanley". There is a mid-sized picture taped in the front upper right corner which shows two men, one of which is holding an album entitled "Old time camp meeting - The Stanley Brothers". One would presume this is Ralph and Carter Stanley. No stickers. There is a 3" centered seam split on the bottom edge with a piece of tape over it. Bottom outer corner is split about 1/4". Rate the cover VG. Comments: I found the tracks to audibly average better than 1/3 of the way between VG+(excellent) and Near Mint. You can assign your own grade based on my comments and the scale shown below. An outstanding and rare addition to your Ralph and Carter Stanley collection. Side 1: Comments: The old crossroads Up to a very light surface noise with some very light pops (3.45) Drifting too far from the shore 15-20 light medium pops with some very, very light surface noise (2.7) Just a little talk with Jesus Up to a very, very light to very light surface noise (3.45) Precious memories Up to a very, very light surface noise (3.5) I'll fly away in the sweet by and by (instr.) Up to a very, very light surface noise (3.6) Uncloudy day Up to a very, very light surface noise with some very light pops (3.4) Side 2: Comments: Over in the glory land Up to a very, very light surface noise with some very light pops (3.45) Lonely tombs Up to a very, very light surface noise with some very light pops (3.45) Amazing grace Up to a very, very light surface noise with some very light pops (3.45) I am a pilgrim Up to a very, very light surface noise (3.6) A beautiful life Up to a very, very light surface noise (3.6) Someone's last day Up to a very light surface noise with some very light pops (3.4)

Additional criteria I use when audibly grading records for people:

  • NM(4) = absolutely nothing wrong at all (very rarely happens--I've even opened sealed records and they don't play Near Mint)
  • 3.5-3.9 = very, very light surface noise
  • 3.1-3.4 = very light surface noise, very light pops
  • VG+(3) = up to light pops and light surface noise (below this, one's enjoyment is affected, very subjective)
  • VG(2) = up to medium pops and moderate surface noise
  • G(1) = up to heavy pops and heavy surface noise

I normally ship Lp's in 14"x14"x6" boxes padded in styrofoam. Weight with box is about 1 pound 11 oz. Shipping is: $2.89 Media Rate (1-2 pounds) + $2.00 box/tape/packing + $.85 delivery confirmation = $5.74.

Buyer pays shipping/handling. Standard method within U.S. is Media Rate, $4.00 This includes delivery confirmation which enables you to track shipping of your package online. Outside U.S., e-mail location to determine S/H costs prior to auction end. Insurance / other methods of shipping cost extra. Payment received within ten days of auction ending. Payment via Paypal preferred.
