Description
A rare survivor from 1967. A stereo copy of the debut album from the Velvet Underground with the original peelable banana gatefold sleeve still mostly unpeeled and intact (see photographs for more details)
I believe that this is probably an imported sleeve printed in the USA housing a UK pressed record. The sleeve gives the catalogue number as V6-5008 but the record labels have the number 2315056. This is on the MGM label and states "Manufactured and Distributed by Polydor Records Ltd for MGM Records Ltd." Nowhere on the label does it say made in England. If anyone out there has further information on the origin of this record please let me know and I can add anything useful to the listing.

Condition. Well, first the good news. The front cover is in pretty good shape as you can see in the photographs. The rest of the sleeve is less good news. The inside of the gatefold is not too bad but the lower edges have some staining/water damage which extends a little way up the left and right hand bottom corners. The part of the sleeve which actually houses the record is split almost all the way along the top and at least three quarters of the way along the bottom. This has been quite crudely repaired by a previous owner with sticky tape . The tape has been removed from the top edge but has left some nasty staining. Also, a previous owner has put asterisks in blue ink next to four titles on the track listing. He has also written his name in blue biro on the rear sleeve. The spine is not too bad, surprisingly. There is an area of loss at the top of the spine (about 2cm) and the album title is slightly worn.
The record itself woud probably qualify as G+ in the Record Collector Magazine's grading system. It has obviously been well played and not always handled with great care. As a result the surfaces are not glossy and there are several little scratches/scuffs. The previous owner's name also appears on the side 1 label. The disc can be played all the way through without any jumps or skips but there is quite a lot of crackling throughout and some annoying ticks and pops. My guess is, however, that whoever buys this copy is going to be more interested in the condition of the sleeve than the condition of the record.
