~*~VICTOR ONE SIDED RECORDS DINWIDDIE QUARTET~*~



This is a great and from what I understand very collectible and rare Victor Record. It is "Down On The Old Camp Ground" by Dinwiddie Colored Quartet and it's number is 1714. It is a one sided, 78 RPM record and says "Manufactured Exclusively by Victor Talking Machine Co., Camden, NJ". It has the dog, Nipper on it. I do not know alot about these old records, but through research I found out that Victor Talking Machine Co. was from 1901 to 1929 and Eldridge R. Johnson incorporated it in Camden New Jersey in 1901. I was told the Dinwiddie Colored Quartet was the first recorded African American group and "Down On The Old Camp Ground" was their first record. It was probable recorded around 1902 which makes this record over 105 years old. The record seem in good shape, it is not warped and there are no major scratches or dings. I picked it up at a tag sale and know little about this type of record, so please ask if I have left something out. Any questions, please contact me and I will try to answer them.
