Description
1959 was a landmark year in stereo recording, across all genres.
In Jazz, Miles Davis' Kind of Blue, Dave Brubeck's Take Five and Ella Fitzgerald's Gershwin Songbook were released.
Rock and Roll was in full swing, with RCA producing good sounding recordings of Elvis Prersley.
Classical music did not miss the boat, with Mercury, RCA, EMI and Decca all in their golden age of recording.
This recording was one of Decca's very best, launching both this complete Wagner "Ring" cycle, as well as Georg Solti as a world class conductor, with the Vienna Philharmonic and world class soloists.
Recording took place in the Sofiensaal, with the legendary John Culshaw as the engineer.
This was not originally intended to be an audiophile recording, but the sound has well and truly stood the test of time, as well as the performance.
Original has been long time resident on Harry Pearson's "Superdisc List" in "The Absolute Sound".
Immerse yourself in Wagner's "total music drama", more than "mere opera"!
Listen to the authentic anvils on "Descent to the Nibelheim"!
