Description
This is a very nice stereo copy of Wagner’s Das Rheingold with the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Georg Solti on 3 180g LPs as released by Super Analogue Disc and sold through Cisco Music (catalogue KIJC 9152/4) The LPs are in excellent condition with no scratches or scuffs. The disks are remastered from the original analogue tapes. I believe that they were pressed by RTI in California. I purchased the set new when it was issued afterwhich it quickly went out of print. I originally cleaned the LPs with a VPI record cleaner and treated them with LAST record preservative before playing them. More recently, the records have been demagnetized and cleaned again with an Audio Desk ultra-sonic record cleaner. I have played the set through and found it to be mostly quiet with only some intermittent surface noise. The records are enclosed in an outer box with the second cover that was used for this set of records. There is an OBI as well. A full libretto is included with photos from the recording session. The text is in Japanese and German. This is probably the best pressing of this recording that I have heard. I believe it was issued in the late 1990s.
The cast is as follows:
Das Rheingold (3 LPs): George London (Wotan), Kirsten Flagstad (Fricka), Claire Watson (Freia), Waldemar Kmentt (Froh), Eberhard Wachter (Donner), Set Svanholm (Loge), Paul Kuen (Mime), Jean Madeira (Erda), Gustav Neidlinger (Alberich), Walter Kreppel (Fasolt), Kurt Bohme (Fafner), Oda Balsborg (Woglinde), Hetty Plumacher (Wellgunde), and Ira Malaniuk (Flosshilde).
