Here from my personal collection a very rare 1st UK pressing of the Wailers major-label debut album! Rare and scarce to find only 20,000 copies ever produced with this original Zipper sleeve and very few ever survive intact! 

Please note this album is listed for its rarety rather than for its condition. There is general wear and tear with age, but the vinyl plays through very clear and vibrant throughout there is light interference in the form of general static type ticks heard through out this vinyl but I heard no distortion or signs that this has been overplayed. The original and scarce Zippo cover is complete but does display wear and tear in the form of creasings and rubbing wear.

Catch a Fire is the major-label-debut album for Jamaican reggae band The Wailers, released on Island Records in 1973. The album established the band as international superstars. Leader Bob Marley in particular became world-famous, especially in the Caribbean, Brazil and Africa, and among immigrants in Europe and African-Americans in the United States!. The socially aware lyrics and militant tone surprised many listeners, but others were attracted to songwriters Marley and Peter Tosh's confrontational subjects and optimistic view of a future free from oppression!

On completion, the master tapes were taken to the UK  for remixing, and Chris Blackwell enlisted the help of two US musicians - making this 1st UK  "English" version of the album. Wayne Perkins re-did some of the rhythm/ lead guitar, whilst John "Rabbit" Bundrick added some organ, electric piano, clavinet and synthesizer.!

!The first 20,000 copies of the original 1973 vinyl release were encased in a sleeve depicting a Zippo lighter!!. The sleeve functioned as a Zippo lighter case would, opening at a side hinge to reveal the record within!. However, producers soon realized that this operation would require hand-manufacture, as machinery available was not sufficient to rivet the upper and lower halves of the sleeve together. Copies of the record from these original pressings have since become a mega mega collectors' item!!, and subsequent pressings are recognizable by their alternative cover art (pictured)! This is the original very rare to find in any condition!

The Vinyl

The vinyl is the original thicker and heavier type of vinyl only found on the earliest pressings! This vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable!

On initial inspection this vinyl gleems and indeed looks awesome! Only in strong light could possibly any light very whyspy surface marks/scratches/scuffs or  sleeve removal marks be seen!

The Audio

I have played this vinyl through track for track at very loud volume on a top system! The 1st thing to mention is that this produces absolutely stunning base and base lines, in fact this nearly shook the place down!, I subsequently had to reduce the levels on my amplifier! Absolutely stunning top audio  In my opinion no other format would come close to this stunning audio quality! Please note, there is some interference to mention in the form of static type background crackle and  ticks heard during the play of this vinyl but I heard no distortion or signs that this has been over played. There is of course no skips or jumps. I would grade the audio as excellent in my opinion.

The record Sleeve

This is plain white patented sleeve  (no) splits or tares!, just light creasing\fading becoming fragile with age! The vinyl is stored seperately from the vinyl

The Cover

This is the original Island 'Zippo lighter' Cover! (one of only 20,000 ever produced for the UK! This is in generally straight intact condition for 35 years old! There is light general storage ware edge bumping\ rubbing to the edges but the cover is full functional and some creases to the main cover, there are no splits or tears ! This must grade at Excellent in my opinion! Rare to find these originals intact.
