Description

CONDITION V+/E on this nice clean copy of early jazz from 1917 from one of the originals W.C. HANDY'S ORCHESTRA OF MEMPHIS with "A BUNCH OF BLUES" and "MOONLIGHT BLUES" -- after Wilbur Sweetman recorded in April of the same year, these sides recorded in September of 1917 are the second known recordings of an African American band at the time and the first recording session for W.C. Handy who by then was already 43 -- here we have a great jazz ensemble that included Sylvester Bevard on trombone, Wilson Townsend and Alex Pool on clarinet, Charles Harris and Nelson Kincaid on tenor sax, Edward Alexander, William Tyler and Darnell Howard on violins, Charles Hillman on piano, Archie Walls on standing bass and Jasper Taylor on drums on this 1917 issue on COLUMBIA A2418 a 10" 78 rpm original record -- please see photos
