Congratulations, you have found one of the rarest and greatest recordings of all time.  Long out of print, this is brand new and sealed.  Meticulously stored in a humidity controlled vault since new.  This is the original U.S. pressing from Wilson Audiophile Recording’s analogue master tape.  Not subsequent re-release on inferior vinyl and from digital masters.  I have heard them all and the original is the real deal.  If you know anything about it, nothing more need be said.

Technical / Listening Notes

Chamber music is meant to be performed and enjoyed in a relatively small room, as opposed to an expansive concert hall.  Therefore the perspective of this recording is close…as though the artists are creating music in your listening room.

The musical instruments used in this recording are of superb quality, complementing the talents of the artists, and enhancing the color and expressiveness of the literature.  The piano is a 9 foot Hamberg Steinway model D concert grand, selected for its almost magical harmonic warmth and evenness of tone.  The violin is a Guarnerius, buit in Cremona, Italy in 1719.  The Guarnerius sings with speed, focus, and sweetness.

A spaced pair of Schoeps microphones, driving a vacuum tube line-level amplifier, are used to capture a naturally open, and dynamically accurate sonic presentation.

The sonic image of the violin should originate just to the right of the inside edge of the left speaker.  The overall tonal balance of this recording reflects the recording site (Mills College Concert Hall), the instruments and the recording approach, being slightly warm and never stringent.

A personal note:  This is my favourite of the Wilson Audiophile series. It really tests the faithfulness of your system’s reproduction.  Get the VTA just right, and the musicians are in your room.

Grading:  Brand new & Sealed

This is a rare, out of print, collectors’ item.  Original shrink wrap seal, with no cover discolouration or marks.  This item was originally imported from Wilson Audio Specialties, carefully stored and has never changed hands.

As the item has a shrink wrap, the photos are not the clearest, or showing reflections. 

Packaging:  

Item(s) will be carefully packed with bubble-wrap protection, and placed inside a purpose-designed cardboard box.  The box will be labelled with “Fragile” stickers.  I do not charge for packaging.  Please note that despite all care:

1. LP record covers can get dented corners and seam-splits from carrier handling.  Seam-splits can be minimised by removing the record from its cover and packaged separately.  However as this is an original sealed collectors’ item, I will not do this unless you expressively ask for. 
2. CD cases are fragile and can crack under pressure.  CD cases can be easily replaced.  All items are carefully inspected before shipping.
