Description

THE BEATLES - 'WITH THE BEATLES'

This EXCELLENT UK 1st MONO pressing dates from the day of release on 22nd November 1963 and is on the black & yellow Parlophone label: PMC 1206

Both labels omit the 'Sold in UK...' text but have 'The Parlophone Co. Ltd....' rim texts.

The side 2 label incorrectly credits 'Jobete Mus. NCB' as the publisher of the song for 'Money'

The 'KT' purchase tax code is visible in the centre of the side 1 label.

Matrix numbers: XEX 447-1N & XEX 448-1N

Stamper codes: 7/PR & 4/OO

Disc weight: 172g

The disc is housed within a rarer front laminated, tri-flipback 'Ernest J. Day' printed mono cover which , like the side 2 label, misspells track 3 on side 2 as 'You Really Gotta Hold On Me'.

Complete with its original poly-lined 'Use Emitex..' inner-sleeve.

Disc

Labels: EXCELLENT

Both are clean & bright with little more than a touch of wear around the side 1 centre hole to show for its 49 years.

Visual: EXCELLENT

Both playing surfaces are clean and retain their deep-gloss shine and display no noticeable or significant surface marks visible in strong daylight. Closer inspection directly beneath my powerful halogen desk reveals little more than a handful of light stylus hairlines and some harmless paper scuffs but definitely nothing deep or major. Both sides of this very heavy disc lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Sound Quality: VERY GOOD +

Incredibly powerful and explosive sound from this initial '-1N' cutting which was cut so hot that it was withdrawn immediately on release due to complaints from buyers that it was making their record stylus' jump. No such problems on today's equipment and although this copy has received a number of careful plays, the sound quality throughout is amazing and every track retains power any energy which has never been reproduced on any subsequent issue of this LP. My single careful play-check detected a little light background on 'Til there Was You' and a few light clicks in the band between tracks 2 & 3 on side 2 but no further significant or major audible faults. If you have never experienced this cutting before, you will not be disappointed.

Cover: EXCELLENT -

A fine example of this rare cover which overall is of much higher qulaity than its more common 'Garrod & Lofthouse' manufactured counterpart. Carefully stored in a non-smoking environment, the iconic front panel is clean & unyellowed with just faint storage rubbing of its high-gloss laminate and a few small edge wrinkles, but no 'thumbnails' or any other significant wear. There is a small bump to the lower right corner but all others are still in excellent shape, as are both opening edges. The rear panel is clean & bright overall with some foxing but no writing or missing paper anywhere.

All of the delicate flipbacks are in-place and fully intact and both seams and the spine are all smooth, unstressed and undamaged.

Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT

Clean & unblemished with a few gentle storage bends but no writing, tears or seam splits.
