Description
An original very 1st press of WTB in STEREO from November 1963. Matrix 2/2 - 1st cut. Note that the labels still exhibit the 'Jobete' publishing credit on side 2 - this is indicative of earliest 1st press. It probably doesn't need mentioning - but these early stereo copies are way way harder to find than copies from the mid to late 60's when Stereo had passed into the mainstream. The label mentions 'Parlophone' in the perimeter text and 'recording 1st pub' is exhibiting too - all present on true 1st issues. This lovely heavy pressing comes housed in that iconic original Garrod cover. Remember - when it was first issued the Beatles faces were half hidden in shade. Later the record company would re-lighten the image -- and then all further copies never quite had that same artistic feel to them. THIS is the REAL DEAL - earliest 1st issue .... and ORIGINAL PRESENTATION. We also have the Emitex inner sleeve. So, we're 100% complete and 100% genuine.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) A very well preserved original 1963 record [particularly given the vintage]. Under close inspection there are a few very light marks per side - the sort that will not impinge much on that precious audio. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a varying level of playback. Side 2 - pretty much solid [EX] from start to finish. Side 1 - is more nuanced and has seen more use. Still a nice relatively clean player.... (I'm not picking up consistent background) but I did detect some light distortion in tracks 4 & 6 [side 1]. Nothing up front or really unpalatable - but the audio was none the the less exhibiting this intermittently in these tracks. To be honest track 6 - is by far the fussiest track on the whole of WTB anyway. By and large, and given the relative vintage and scarcity of this copy, audio playback is very appealing for the bulk of the two sides. Not 'perfect' by any means - but a solid player at the right standard for a collector who understands it is difficult to track this copy down in this kind of condition.
Cover (Vg+) A superb looking specimen with that iconic front image looking superb. Worth noting that the cover is pleasingly flat with great rigidity. Not much sign of ageing on the front and just a few thumbnail creases over toward the opening. The rear has avoided the worst effects of the ageing process. Just a bit along the bottom edge and over toward the opening edge. But the rear is looking very tidy with all flipbacks perfectly intact. The spine is 100% intact. Overall a bit of a humdinger I'd argue.
Emitex (Vg+) Lightly aged. Two one inch side splits - have been taped up.
