World’s Greatest Opera Rigoletto
Three discs in E+ condition, cover V-, some damage to spine. Program notes included.
WORLD’S GREATEST OPERAS on 78 rpm Verdi’s Rigoletto. This is part of a series of 12” albums were released under the sponsorship of the Publishers Service Company, an arm of the New York Post newspaper as a Music Appreciation project promoted nationwide. These albums were recorded on a very low budget but using performers from major orchestras and conductors who either were or would become renown and were willing to record for very little payment and with no label credit. Excellent performances and recordings overall. This album contains a recording of selections from Verdi’s Rigoletto and was recorded on May 31 and June 25 1940 at Town Hall, New York and released on 3 discs. The 45-47 piece orchestra was conducted by Wilfrid Pelletier and featuring Jean Dickenson, Lucielle Browning, Armand Tokatyan, Leonard Warren, Norman Cordon and Pino Bontempi. The discs are in E+ condition and the album cover is in V- condition, slightly worn, some damage to spine, with some rusting at the rivets. Program notes are included.
