Scarce 1970s lp with 2 essential experimental pieces by Xenakis performed by L'Octuor De Paris. Though Xenakis never fully embraced microtonality, the rarely-heard Anaktoria is his most microtonal composition, making stunning and extensive use of quarter tones, third tones, and glissandi; it was composed specifically for L'Octuor De Paris. Morsima-Amorsima, one of the first ever computer-composed pieces, was made using calculus functions of the IBM 7090 mainframe computer (the same machine used by John R. Pierce, Max Mathews, Newman Guttman, and James Tenney at Bell Labs to create the earliest computer-synthesized music).

Xenakis was a Greek architect and composer who worked with Le Corbusier and brought the mathematics and logic of engineering into his "stochastic" music; he studied under Darius Milhaud, Arthur Honegger, and Olivier Messiaen, was influenced by Karlheinz Stockhausen and John Cage, worked with Pierre Schaeffer (at the INA-GRM studios), Lukas Foss, and Pierre Boulez, and is associated with fellow eastern europeans Gyorgy Ligeti and Krzysztof Penderecki. • Should be of interest to fans of microtonal composers like Harry Partch, Ivan Wyschnegradsky, Lou Harrison, La Monte Young, Ben Johnston, Easley Blackwood, Glenn Branca, Alvin Lucier, Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, Charles Ives, Alois Haba, Julian Carrillo, Emil Richards, Joe Maneri, Teo Macero, James Tenney, Rhys Chatham, and Tony Conrad.

Packing I pack professionally and with the utmost care drawn from years of experience trading vinyl internationally. I use new record mailers from Cameron Packaging (which I have determined are the best and most protective) reinforced with cardboard inserts and bubble wrap padding. All records are shipped with poly plastic sleeves and with the vinyl outside of the cover to prevent damage. All packages are completely sealed with strong packing tape covering all openings. Unless requested, no paper invoice is included in the package, both to save trees and to avoid customs difficulties. If you'd like your package done any differently, just let me know.
